The BEDROCK 3D filament line for FFF 3D printing includes the ABS filament, designed for users seeking more than just aesthetic printing. Strong, flexible, and heat-resistant, it is ideal for functional prototypes, durable parts, and components that must withstand demanding conditions, all while printing smoothly on standard FFF printers.

ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is an amorphous thermoplastic polymer widely used in 3D printing, known for its excellent impact resistance, chemical stability, and long-term durability. Thanks to its thermal resistance (up to 96 °C) and reliable dimensional stability, printed parts can handle demanding environments without compromising performance.

The BEDROCK 3D ABS filament is compatible with many open-material FFF printers and comes with print profiles for Ultimaker, Prusa, and Bambu Lab, making setup easy and ensuring consistent results. For best results, a heated bed (90–110 °C) and printing temperatures of 240–260 °C are recommended.

To create complex structures with this material and a support material, the Xioneer VXL 90 soluble support material or the VXL 111 soluble support material are recommended by the manufacturer. These support materials can also be extruded at high speeds, resulting in smooth and efficient 3D printing. The water solubility of VXL 90/111 makes post-processing more precise and faster. In the Downloads section, you can find a compatibility chart between BEDROCK 3D ABS filaments and Xioneer support filaments.

Post-processing is also simple: the filament can be smoothed with acetone for a clean, polished finish. It is ideal for functional prototypes, wear-resistant parts, mechanical components, and chemically demanding applications.

Like all 3D printing filaments, BEDROCK 3D ABS must be stored properly to prevent moisture absorption. Moisture is the worst enemy of filaments and can cause extrusion problems and poor print quality. The BEDROCK 3D ABS filament should be stored in a vacuum-sealed bag with a filament drying capsule, in a smart filament container before and after printing, and in a filament drying device during printing.

The BEDROCK 3D ABS filament should be extruded at a temperature of 230-255 ºC and at a speed of 30-70 mm/s. To 3D print with this filament, a 3D printer with a heated bed is required, and the bed temperature should be set to a minimum of 90 ºC (maximum 120 ºC).

ABS is sensitive to drafts and can warp if printed in uncontrolled environments. It is recommended, though not necessary, to print BEDROCK 3D ABS in an enclosed 3D printer, especially for medium and large parts. To further reduce warping, the layer fan can be used. Printing ABS on a BuildTak surface or using Kapton tape, bed adhesion sprays such as DimaFix or 3DLac, or adhesive glues, e.g., 3DLac Stick or Magigoo, can also significantly improve adhesion and reduce warping with BEDROCK 3D ABS.
