ABS FAST 3NTR

3NTR-ABS-FAST-WHITE-285-1000

3NTR is a renowned Italian manufacturer of industrial grade 3D printers and filaments with many years of know-how in the additive manufacturing market.

The ABS FAST filament, available in 3 colors, is one of the materials that 3NTR has in their portfolio. It is a high fluidity ABS with an excellent surface finish, designed for prints faster by even 50 % when used with 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm nozzles.

The ABS FAST filament is made of ABS, one of the most popular 3D printing materials. ABS, together with PLA, was the first 3D printing material available when additive manufacturing was on its rise. The name ABS is an acronym of the words acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, the components that make up ABS. Acrylonitrile gives ABS hardness, rigidity and resistance to chemicals and high temperatures. Butadiene provides endurance and prevents brittleness in low temperatures. Thanks to styrene, ABS has even more rigidity and mechanical strength.

ABS is often used in parts designed for the outdoors since it handles rain and wind pretty well. ABS is also light and quite affordable, which makes it ideal for manufacturing prototypes and plastic preview models. Its resistance to temperature changes makes ABS perfectly recyclable, and its low heat and electricity conductivity make it appropriate for applications requiring electrical insulation. ASB can also absorb shock thanks to its great impact resistance.

ABS finds countless uses all across modern industries, for example in decorative car interior parts, household appliances, computer keyboard components, face guards for wall sockets, power tool housings, plastic tubing, protective headgear, and toys.

ABS is a 3D printing material slightly more difficult to print and prone to warping. However, this material was designed to be used on the 3NTR 3D printers that already incorporate a carbon fiber base additivized with glass fiber to provide a highly adherent printing surface without the need for external adhesion improving products.

Should warping occur anyway, a "raft" or "brim" can be used to prevent it. The "raft" setting in the slicing software works as a thick first layer of support for the piece and can be removed quite easily. The infill value should be lowered when a raft is used in order to reduce the amount of heat stored by the piece. The "brim" resembles a membrane printed around the piece, and it is helpful with small parts or parts with a narrow base. The brim thickness should never be smaller than 5 mm, otherwise the first layer will come off the printing base.

Tall and thin parts may turn out difficult to print with ABS. The prints may become deformed as the layers may not have enough time to harden. The solution to this problem is to print 2 or more pieces at the same time. This will give ABS enough time to harden as the extruder moves from the first piece to the second after each layer.
