Raise3D is one of the leading manufacturers of 3D FDM printers and accessories. Since its inception, it has been committed to offering high quality 3D printers, with innovative components and operating systems, always maintaining an adequate sale price for most professional users.

Currently it offers a wide catalog of high quality filaments: PLA, ABS, ASA, PC, PETG and PVA.

ABS is a plastic formed from acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. It is called engineering plastic because it is a material with superior mechanical and thermal properties than conventional plastics, which also implies greater printing difficulties.

Due to its composition, ABS has the following properties:

  • Acrylonitrile provides hardness, resistance to high temperatures, resistance to chemical products and rigidity.
  • Butadiene offers temperature toughness, especially when it is low and resistance to impact.
  • Styrene provides more rigidity and mechanical strength.

The combination of these three blocks makes ABS a widely used plastic in industrial sectors such as the automobile or in products in common use (toys, electrical appliance housings, etc.). As a consequence of its widespread use in the industry, this material was one of the first to be used in 3D printing together with PLA.

Contrary to PLA, ABS can be easily post-processed: machining, polishing, drilling, gluing or painting with ease and without the need for special tools or products.

ABS Premium Raise 3D Filament has been designed and developed with the aim of offering the highest quality and excellent compatibility with Raise 3D printers. To do this, the material is tested by the manufacturer until it finds the parameters that best fit to achieve an optimal impression.

Raise 3D has developed a lamination software, Idea Maker, in which it includes a series of predefined settings for different materials, based on the data obtained in its tests. These presets include the one for Raise 3D Premium ABS; which greatly facilitates and speeds up the printing process.

Raise 3D ABS Premium is available in 750 g spools in 1.75 mm diameter only. The spools are shipped in a vacuum bag in a cardboard box. In this way, the material is kept free of moisture to ensure optimal printing.

If the ABS Premium filament is 3D printed on the Pro 3 or Pro 3 Plus printer with the Hyper Speed Upgrade Kit (HUK3) installed, the printing speed can be upgraded to up to 150 mm/s. Furthermore, Raise3D has a line of Hyper Speed filaments especially developed to be used with the Hyper Speed Upgrade Kit, among them the Hyper Speed ABS which allows printing speeds of up to 300 mm/s.

3D printing with Raise 3D's Premium ABS is a bit more complex than with Premium PLA filament. In the case of Premium ABS filament, it is necessary for the print bed to be heated, between 80 and 100ºC. Additionally, the extruder temperature should be between 220 and 240ºC. It is also important to remember that this material is subject to a phenomenon called "warping," which causes the first layer of the parts to lift off the 3D printer's bed. For this reason, it is recommended to use BuildTak, Kapton Tape, Magigoo, or DimaFix, especially when printing large parts, to prevent them from lifting off the bed.

Regarding the temperature of the enclosure where the printing will take place, it is recommended to keep it controlled and free from drafts. For this reason, if printing with Raise 3D Pro series printers, the top cover should be used to maintain a stable chamber temperature.

Finally, this material should be printed in a well-ventilated room, as the fumes released during printing with Premium ABS filament are not entirely healthy.
