HiPS breakaway support filament for ABS, ASA, PC-ABS and TPU. Requires heated bed and chamber.

One of the challenges in FDM 3D printing is the manufacturing of complex structures and geometries. This is due to the fact that overhangs and bridges with certain angles and lengths cannot be supported by the previous layer, and a support structure is needed.

There is a wide range of support filaments available on the 3D printing market, one type being breakaway support filaments, such as the 3NTR SSU00 support filament for ABS, ASA, PC-ABS and TPU 95A and 85A. This filament is extruded at 225 ºC and requires a 3D printer with a heated bed (103-105 ºC) and a heated chamber (65-70 ºC). The use of a cooling fan is also recommended.

The 3NTR SSU00 support filament is a HiPS based materialHiPS is a modified form of PS (High Impact Polystyrene), light, harder, and with better impact and water resistance. It is very often used as a support filament, both soluble (in D-Limonene) and breakaway, since it is easy to 3D print and remove, leaving no marks on the printed piece.

Since the SSU00 filament is a breakaway support, it needs to be removed manually once the printing process is complete, with the help of hands or pliers for more precision. To use this material as a support, a 3D printer with a dual or more extruders is required. All the 3NTR 3D printers, which the SSU00 support filament was designed for, count with 3 (3NTR-A2 and 3NTR-A4) or 4 extruders (Spectral 30). This allows the user to 3D print very complex and multi material structures using the SSU00 support filament with up to 3 other filaments.

The SSU00 HiPS support filament by 3NTR is the perfect solution for users who want to print complex structures and geometries in a convenient way on the industrial 3NTR 3D printers, with materials such as ABS, ASA, PC-ABS or Elasto TPU by 3NTR.

All the 3NTR 3D printers incorporate a carbon fiber base additivized with glass fiber that ensures optimal adhesion of the 3NTR filaments to the building base. Hence, there is no need for external adhesion improving products. The manufacturer recommends prepping the bed with isopropyl alcohol before and after every printing session.

The SSU00 support material requires the use of a heated bed at 103-105 ºC, and a closed heated chamber at 65-70 ºC. Using the cooling fan is also highly recommended with this material.

This filament should be stored in a dry place, preferably a drying unit before and after printing in order to avoid humidity from affecting the condition of the filament and the quality of the 3D prints. The recommended drying equipment is the Vento drying unit or the Storm modular drying unit, both by 3NTR.

If the filament exhibits signs of humidity, it should be dried at 40 ºC for 4 hours (heat only or heat and vacuum).
