Official platinum cured silicone sock for the Mosquito hotend, rated to 300 ºC printing temperatures.

Just like the Copperhead hotend, the Mosquito hotend by Slice Engineering has an official dedicated silicon sock, compatible with the Mosquito and Mosquito Magnum hotends. This silicon sock is optimized to fit with Slice Engineering nozzles but it will also work with other Rep Rap style nozzles with 7 mm or smaller hex sizes.

The silicon sock for the Mosquito hotend is made from high grade platinum cured silicone. This solution ensures high temperature resistance of up to 300 ºC. The Mosquito silicone boot is thickly molded with internal air cavities to guarantee optimal thermal insulation and tear resistance.

The finger grips help with the installation and removal of the sock (see Usage tips), and the sock itself is designed in such a way that it will stay hooked onto the hotend at all times. A clear coating of plastic repellent on the surface of the Mosquito silicone sock keeps the extruded plastic from sticking to the hotend, thus preventing plastic accumulation, clogging and surface quality issues on the 3D printed part.

Installing the silicone boot on the Mosquito hotend will serve as long lasting protection from cooling air and plastic adhesion, especially during the extrusion of copolyesters, making the maintenance of the Mosquito hotend easier and extending its longevity. Some other benefits are greater temperature stability of the hotend, better quality of overhangs and bridges, and overall improved quality of the parts.

Before the silicone sock is mounted on the Mosquito hotend, the hotend should be cleaned from any plastic residue. Next, the nozzle should be installed on the Mosquito hotend. Now the silicone sock can be placed on the Mosquito hotend according to the following instructions:

First, the silicone sock should be slid onto the Mosquito hotend starting from the back (1). Step 2 is to push the silicone sock the rest of the way onto the hot block. The last step (3) requires making sure that the upper flanges on the silicone sock are completely on top of the Mosquito hotend.
