Hotends tend to get contaminated with residue left behind by filament, especially copolyesters, during the 3D printing process. One of the ways to avoid that is to use a silicone sock for the hotend. This way, the maintenance of the nozzle is much faster and easier. Another benefit that the Slice Copperhead Silicone Sock offers is a greater temperature stability of the hotend, which is protected from air flow in case a layer fan is being used. This allows for 3D printing pieces with larger overhangs and bridges successfully.

The Slice Copperhead silicone sock is made of platinum cured silicone, which gives it higher temperature resistance - up to 300 ºC. Furthermore, it has self extinguishing properties. The sock is additionally coated with a plastic repellent to aid its performance. The silicone sock is also molded with internal air cavities that guarantee tear resistance and thermal insulation.

The installation and removal of the Slice Copperhead silicone sock is aided by finger grips incorporated into the sockt’s design. The sock is also equipped with a spring that keeps it hooked to the heat block at all times.

The Slice Copperhead silicone sock fits Slice Engineering nozzles perfectly, but is also compatible with other Rep Rap nozzles with a 7 mm or smaller hex size.

See the Usage tips section for installation instructions.

The Copperhead silicone sock is a much needed accessory for any Copperhead Hotend user. It protects the heat block from cooling down and keeps it clean from troublesome filament residue.

Before the silicone sock is mounted on the Copperhead Heat Block, any filament residue should be removed from the heat block, and the nozzle should be installed on the heat block as shown here. Next, the following steps should be followed:

  1. Slide the silicone sock onto the Copperhead Heat Block starting from the back, and then push the sock in the rest of the way, as shown in the pictures below:
