High quality coating for elastic and flexible materials, available in many colors.

The coating of flexible and elastic materials can be a challenge if the wrong kind of coating is used. BASF has developed Ultracur3D Coat F+ - the ideal coating for flexible and elastic materials, guaranteeing a great surface finish, excellent adhesion and preserved flexibility and elasticity of the coated material.

The most outstanding features of the Ultracur3D Coat F+ coating, apart from its great adhesion, elasticity, flexibility, and a wide range of colors to choose from, are its ease of use, low VOC content and the fact that it is safe for contact with skin. Furthermore, TPU parts coated with the Ultracur3D Coat F+ will have an increased abrasion resistance.

The Ultracur3D Coat F+ is the perfect solution for various applications in diverse sectors. It can be used to make functional prototypes as well as end-use serial production parts in many materials and colors, with easy application by dipping or spraying. The example applications are in automotive interiors, footwear, consumer goods, orthopedic models, sport protection equipment, tools, grippers, pipes, etc.

Before use, the Ultracur3D Coat F+ coating must be stirred thoroughly, and after use, if it contains the Ultracur3D Hardener F+, it should not be poured back into the original packaging.

Before coating, the part to be coated must be clean, free of dust, rust, oil and grease. If the part was previously chemically smoothed, it is recommended to perform an additional tempering of 4h at 60°C before coating. The recommended mixing ratio is 100 : 4 by volume and the coating can be applied via dipping or spraying.

Dip coating is best for medium and large series production with an automatized dipping pool and centrifuge. The downside of dip coating is that small features and holes may not get coated properly. As far as spray coating, this method of coating is recommended for small series production where manual spraying or a spray robot are used. The limitations of spray coating show when the sprayed part has complex geometries such as undercuts or channels.

If a spray gun is used, it should always be cleaned beforehand, for example with Isopropanol. The Ultracur3D Coat F+ should be sprayed with a HVLP spray gun in maximum 2 coats with a layer thickness of 20-25 μm.
