Reflecon's Tarnish 12 3D scanning spray is a reduced-solvent, sublimating spray that improves the laser 3D scanning process by dulling difficult surfaces like reflective, mirrored, transparent, or dark areas. This spray is suitable for a range of industries including automotive, aerospace, engineering, medical, art and culture, and more, serving purposes such as research and development, metrology, quality control, and reverse engineering.

The Tarnish 12 scanning spray can be used on a variety of materials, including ferrous materials like uncoated cast steel, non-coated non-ferrous materials such as wood, glass, and ceramics, objects with 1-component lacquer coatings, and many types of plastics including PE, PP, PET, PA, hard and soft PVC, ABS, PMMA, PC, and PU/PUR. It is advisable to test the spray on a discreet area before full application to ensure it does not damage the object being scanned.

Tarnish 12's key features include minimal odor, residue-free application, and no dust production during spraying. These properties help maintain a clean workspace and safeguard 3D scanning equipment while avoiding contamination in delicate environments such as labs. The spray creates a thin, even layer that adheres well and allows for the easy removal of marker points.

Tarnish 12's sublimation time varies between 1 and 2 hours, influenced by factors like material, surface texture, and ambient temperature. Higher temperatures, particularly above 30 ºC, speed up sublimation, while lower temperatures slow it down. Rough surfaces can increase sublimation time, while smooth surfaces hasten it. Applying a thicker layer may also extend sublimation time. For the best results, the recommended layer thickness is 5-35 μm.

Prior to using Tarnish 12, it is crucial to clean scanned objects thoroughly to avoid leaving residue on the surface. Before applying the Tarnish 12 spray onto the desired surface, the user must thoroughly clean the surface to remove any dust or debris. Once the surface is dry, the spray can be applied without causing smears from a distance of 5-10 cm.

The Tarnish 12 spray boasts a minimum shelf life of 3 years when stored at temperatures between 5 and 45 ºC in aerosol form. Avoid using the spray in temperatures below 5 ºC as the state of the spray may change, but it will return to normal when the temperature rises above 5 ºC.
