The Tarnish 11 3D scanning spray from Reflecon is a solvent-based, sublimating spray that enhances the 3D laser scanning process by acting as a dulling agent on challenging surfaces such as reflecting, mirroring, transparent, or dark areas. This spray is designed for use in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, engineering, medical, art and culture, and more, for applications such as R&D, metrology, quality control, and reverse engineering.

The Tarnish 11 scanning spray is suitable for a wide range of materials, including ferrous materials like cast uncoated steel, non-coated non-ferrous materials such as wood, glass, and ceramics, objects coated with 2-component lacquer, and numerous plastics such as PE, PP, PET, PA, hard PVC, ABS, and PC. It is recommended to test the spray's suitability on an invisible spot before full application to avoid potential damage to the object being scanned.

Key features of Tarnish 11 include a reduced odor, residue-free application, and no dust generation during spraying. These qualities keep the workspace clean and protect 3D scanning equipment while preventing contamination in sensitive environments such as laboratories. The spray forms a thin and uniform layer that provides excellent adhesion and allows for easy removal of marker points.

The sublimation time of Tarnish 11 ranges from 1-3 hours, depending on factors such as the material, surface texture, and ambient temperature. Higher temperatures, especially above 30°C, shorten the sublimation time, while lower temperatures extend it. Rough surfaces can prolong sublimation time, whereas smooth surfaces accelerate the process. Applying a thicker layer can also increase sublimation time. The recommended layer thickness for optimal results is 5-35 μm.

Before applying the Tarnish 11 spray onto the desired surface, the user must thoroughly clean the surface to remove any dust or debris. Once the surface is dry, the spray can be applied without causing smears from a distance of 15-20 cm.

The Tarnish 11 spray boasts a minimum shelf life of 3 years when stored at temperatures between 5 and 45 ºC in aerosol form. Avoid using the spray in temperatures below 5 ºC as the state of the spray may change, but it will return to normal when the temperature rises above 5 ºC.
