PLA10 KCL Formi 3D Nordic Birch is a high-performance biocomposite specially developed for large-format additive manufacturing. Made with native PLA and 10% cellulose fibers from certified forests, it reaches a ~95% bio-based content, offering a sustainable, resistant, and versatile solution for multiple applications.

Mechanical performance and ease of printing

This material is characterized by its high mechanical resistance, excellent layer adhesion, and low shrinkage, which guarantees stable and superior quality prints. Designed as an easy-to-use “drop-in”, it allows producing high-definition parts at low process temperatures and with smooth extrusion, suitable for both large and small extruders. Its water resistance and the possibility of fast printing make it a reliable material for demanding applications.

Professional finishes and natural aesthetics

Thanks to its forest-based cellulose fibers, the PLA10 KCL Formi 3D offers additional functionality and unique properties that allow for wood-like post-processing, including sanding, milling, painting, waxing, and varnishing. Being lignin-free, it allows for vibrant and long-lasting colors that maintain a natural and attractive appearance over time.

Versatile applications in multiple sectors

The KCL Formi PLA10 Nordic Birch is especially suitable for the manufacturing of furniture, molds, interior design, panels, frames, sculptures, and prototypes. Its dimensional stability and mechanical properties also make it ideal for technical applications that require rigidity. In addition, it can be used for both pellet extrusion for large scale and the manufacturing of 3D filaments.

Sustainability and circular economy

This biocomposite not only offers high performance but also a responsible approach. With a ~95% bio-based content, fibers from certified forests, and total closed-loop recyclability, the PLA10 KCL Formi 3D Nordic Birch is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastics. It can be mechanically recycled or used for energy recovery, reducing waste and carbon footprint.

The material contains cellulose fibers that can absorb moisture if the package is left open. It is recommended to keep the container sealed whenever possible. To ensure optimal properties, it is advisable to dry the material overnight at 50-55°C, preferably using a dehumidifying dryer.

The recommended maximum processing temperature is 200°C; overheating can cause thermal degradation of the material. Under normal conditions of storage, handling, and use, the product is not flammable. In the event of a fire due to incorrect handling or storage, it is recommended to use multi-purpose powder extinguishers (type ABC) or water, following fire protection regulations.

The granules should be protected from UV light and stored in sealed packages, in dry conditions and at temperatures below 50°C. Exposure to air humidity can increase the water content of the material, negatively affecting the final properties of the printed product.
