The Vibers PLA pellets are the results of a collaboration between ColorFabb and the Dutch company Vibers specialized in the manufacturing of sustainable solutions based on the plant elephant grass (Miscanthus Giganteus), including paper, concrete and bioplastics.

The elephant grass plant is a very sustainable non-food crop that grows in the Netherlands and captures four times more CO2 than trees (30 tons per hectare per year). Furthermore, it is a low-moisture plant that doesn't require the use of fertilizers or any kind of treatment prior to processing. The Vibers bioplastic itself is made of elephant grass, PLA and starch from the Dutch potato processing industry.

The resulting ColorFabb Vibers PLA pellets have a carbon footprint reduced by 30 % compared to regular PLA. Parts 3D printed with the Vibers PLA pellets will have a smooth and matte surface finish, and a color reminiscent of marlstone but slightly darker brown. Pellet colorants can be added by the users to add a background color.

The Vibers PLA pellets are perfect for the additive manufacturing of various decorative objects or prototypes with the help of FGF manufacturing solutions such as the CEAD AM Flexbot solution, the CEAD E25 extruder, the Mahor V4 pellet extruder, or the Dyze Pulsar extruder. It is also possible to manufacture personalized 3D printing filament from the Vibers PLA pellets with the help of the Felfil ecosystem.

The proper storage of 3D printing materials is key to smooth extrusion, and great surface quality and mechanical properties of the 3D printed part. The ColorFabb Vibers PLA pellets should be stored in a closed package in dry conditions at temperature below 50 ºC, protected from UV-light at all times. If the pellets absorb excess moisture, they should be dried for 6-9 hours at 60 ºC (dehumidifying dryer preferred). The recommended processing temperature for the Vibers PLA pellets is 170-190 ºC.
