The PPS-CF filament from Bambu Lab, compatible only with X1E and H2D printers, is a carbon fiber-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide composite designed to meet the most demanding needs of professional 3D printing. Its formula combines the thermal and chemical resistance of PPS with the rigidity of carbon fiber, offering superior mechanical properties, excellent dimensional stability, and durability, making it the ideal choice for critical industrial applications.

Ultra-High Thermal Resistance

This filament reaches a heat deflection temperature of up to 264 °C at 0.45 MPa, allowing continuous operation above 200 °C. Unlike materials such as PA-CF, limited to 190 °C or lower, PPS-CF delivers exceptional performance in industrial environments where heat resistance and stability under continuous load are essential.

Filament Heat Deflection Temp / ℃ (0.45 MPa)
PLA Basic 57 ℃
ABS 87 ℃
PC 117 ℃
PA-CF 184 ℃
PA6-CF 186 ℃
PET-CF 205 ℃
PPA-CF 227 ℃
PPS-CF 264 ℃

Superior Fire Resistance

The PPS-CF filament is UL-94 V-0 certified, ensuring outstanding flame resistance. This makes it safe and reliable for electronics and automotive sectors, where fire protection is a critical requirement.

Unmatched Mechanical Properties

The combination of PPS and carbon fiber results in a filament with high stiffness, flexural and tensile strength, and excellent dimensional stability. This prevents deformation in large prints, delivering precise parts that meet the highest industrial standards.

Property PET-CF PPS-CF Improvement %
Stiffness (Flexural Modulus - XY, dry) 5320 MPa 7160 MPa +34.59%
Strength (Flexural Strength - XY, dry) 131 MPa 142 MPa +8.40%

Chemical and Solvent Resistance

PPS-CF offers excellent resistance to solvents and chemicals, second only to PTFE. It is virtually insoluble in any solvent below 200 °C and maintains integrity against acids, bases, and salts under normal conditions, making it ideal for industrial environments where chemical stability is essential.

Minimal Moisture Absorption

With a water absorption rate of just 0.05%, PPS-CF retains its thermal and mechanical properties even in humid environments. Unlike conventional PA-CF, which softens and loses performance, this material preserves its strength and durability, ensuring consistent, reliable results.

Conclusion

The carbon fiber-reinforced PPS-CF filament is one of the most advanced solutions for professional 3D printing. Its heat resistance, fire certification, high-level mechanical properties, chemical stability, and low moisture absorption make it a benchmark material for industrial sectors requiring quality, safety, and precision.

⚠ Usage Precaution

  • These tips apply only to X1E/H2D printers

1. Printing Temperatures

  • Nozzle: 310–340 °C.
  • Chamber: 60–90 °C.
  • Tip: Higher temperatures improve mechanical properties, especially in the Z direction.

2. Filament Drying

  • Filament Dryer: 100–140 °C for 8–12 hours.
  • X1 printer bed: 110–120 °C for 10–12 hours (less effective than an oven).
  • ⚠ Important: Do not exceed 160 °C to avoid damaging the spool.
  • Tip: Higher temperatures within the drying range produce better results.

3. Filament Storage

  • Use an airtight container with desiccant during printing to prevent moisture absorption.

4. Post-processing (Annealing)

  • Check the Technical Data Sheet, available in the Attachments tab, and the Work After Printing Finished section on Bambu Lab Wiki to enhance mechanical properties after printing.
