HTPLA Marble filament is a high quality enhanced PLA filament developed by Proto-Pasta, a renowned manufacturer of high quality 3D printing filaments specialising in PLA or ABS based materials.

PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) is a biodegradable plastic obtained from natural resources. Specifically, it is obtained from starch extracted from corn, sugar beet and wheat. PLA is one of the most widely used materials in 3D printing today because it does not give off harmful gases and it is very easy to print with it, as it is not essential to have a hot bed.

HTPLA is a PLA-based material with a special formulation developed by Proto-Pasta. Proto-pasta's HTPLA Marble filament spools can be easily printed on any FFF/FDM 3D printer.

Thanks to its composition, parts printed with this material can be heat treated, improving their mechanical properties and achieving a much higher thermal resistance than standard PLA, ABS or PET. For more information about the heat treatment of this material, it is recommended to see the section "Tips for use".

The most striking feature of HTPLA marble filament is its stone effect finish. This marble-like effect is achieved with small, darker coloured particles that give a marbled effect.

The finish of this filament can be very useful in the artistic sector. When using materials such as standard PLA, layer lines and other imperfections or manifestations of FDM manufacturing technology are clearly distinguishable and can affect the outcome of the parts by incurring more post-processing time to achieve the desired finish. The marbling effect of the HTPLA Marble filament masks layer lines and other defects to the point of almost disappearing.

Due to all its properties and its special finish, this filament allows to obtain striking parts with good mechanical properties with great reliability and ease of printing, making it ideal for the manufacture of parts for the artistic field, for the fashion sector or for the creation of decorative pieces.

HTPLA is a specially formulated material developed by Proto-Pasta.

The heat treatment allows the material to achieve maximum performance in only 5 - 10 minutes for small parts, and in a few hours for large parts.

To carry out the heat treatment, the parts must be baked at 110 ± 10 ºC. The process can be carried out at lower temperatures, with less risk of deformation, although this will mean an increase in the treatment time.

Depending on the geometry of the part and the parameters used, the parts may be deformed during heat treatment. It is recommended to keep supports on parts with complex geometries for best results, and to let the parts cool inside the furnace to minimise distortion.

It should be noted that the result of the heat treatment depends on several factors, so it is necessary to experiment until an optimal result is achieved.

This filament contains small particles to achieve the appearance of stone. Although they are not abrasive particles, it is recommended to use a nozzle with an output diameter of more than 0.5 mm to avoid clogging and printing problems.
