Treed filaments is an Italian company renowned for its wide range of FDM/FFF 3D printing materials, including filaments developed for specific sectors such as architecture.

Within Treed Filaments' range of filaments for the architectural sector, you can find filaments such as ABS Caementum, ABS Sandy, ABS Heritage Brick or ABS Monumental Evolution. All these materials are composed of an ABS base with additives of natural mineral fillers and pigments that give the filaments colours and textures similar to architectural materials.

ABS Monumental Evolution is a filament composed of an ABS base and mineral fillers that offers a finish similar to aged marble.

The ABS Monumental Evolution filament has an ABS base that provides this filament with some of the properties and characteristics of this material, such as its mechanical properties and the ability to apply post-processing or machining of the final parts.

ABS is an engineering plastic made of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. This combination of elements gives it hardness, high temperature resistance, chemical resistance and toughness. ABS is one of the most widely used materials in FMD 3D printing, although it is more difficult to print than PLA, due to 3D printing requirements and the need to use an FDM 3D printer with a heated bed.

Parts 3D printed with ABS Monumental Evolution have a colour and texture similar to marble. These properties help to hide the imperfections and layers inherent in FDM printing technology. In addition, parts printed on ABS Monumental Evolution change colour after sanding, giving them the appearance of aged marble.

Marble is obtained after the crystallisation of limestone. Marble is intimately linked to the history and culture of man and, for millennia, has been used as a decorative and structural element. Historically, it has been a fundamental material for construction and art, standing out from other rocks due to its translucent surface. Precisely because of its surface and texture, this material has been widely used in the creation of anthropomorphic sculptures, emulating the appearance of human skin and allowing artists to create pieces with great realism and drama.

ABS Monumental Evolution is ideal for making sculptures and architectural recreations and aims to give 3D printed parts with this filament a marble-like appearance and texture.

Thanks to the ABS Monumental Evolution filament, artists and architects can reproduce pieces with a similar appearance to aged marble without geometry limitations or the need to resort to slow and costly manufacturing processes.

Some of the most important applications of this filament are:

  • Artistic production and recreation of antique sculptures.

  • Production of decorative objects such as lamp holders or wall hangings.
  • Production of costume jewellery or clothing details with an antique marble look.

In addition, ABS Monumental Evolution filament is UV resistant, making it an ideal material for outdoor applications.

ABS Monumental Evolution is a filament for FDM/FFF 3D printers with which artists and architects can let their imagination flow, create and recreate objects and pieces with an aged marble-like appearance in a simple, geometrically unconstrained and cost-effective way.

ABS Monumental Evolution filament shares many of the 3D printing characteristics of ABS. One of the main requirements for the FDM/FFF 3D printer with which the process is to be carried out is that it must have a hot bed and that it can reach a temperature of between 90 - 110 ºC. In addition, the printing temperature should be between 230 and 250 °C. It is recommended to use FDM/FFF 3D printers with a closed chamber, or to avoid sudden temperature changes and draughts.

As with standard ABS, it is recommended to use specific adhesive products such as Magigoo or Dimafix to ensure proper adhesion to the printing surface and to avoid warping. In addition, ABS Monumental Evolution contains mineral particles that can degrade the inside of the nozzle. It is therefore recommended to use a hardened steel nozzle.

ABS is a hygroscopic material. Therefore, to prevent the filament from absorbing moisture that can affect the printing process, it is recommended to store filament spools in vacuum-sealed containers  such as those from PrintDry. If the filament has already absorbed moisture, it must be dried to achieve good 3D printing results. It is recommended to use a filament dryer such as PrintDry Pro.
