Addnorth is a Swedish 3D printing filament manufacturer renowned for producing very high quality filaments, as well as strong material development for science and engineering applications.

Adura™ X is a carbon fibre reinforced Nylon based filament, resulting in an extremely versatile filament that balances flexibility and stiffness. This filament is ideal for making tough parts for high performance environments.

Adura™ X filament maintains certain properties of Nylon, such as good flexibility, chemical and thermal resistance.

The carbon fibres make the filament tougher, stiffer and less prone to shrinkage, but still not too stiff to maintain Nylon's excellent impact resistance and some of its flexibility. In addition, carbon fibres improve adhesion to the base and greatly reduce the warping effect, which is very common in nylon filaments.

Apart from all these mechanical properties, the matt black finish of the Adura™ X filament makes it attractive even for architectural and design applications.

It is recommended to use a hardened steel nozzle, as carbon fibre is very abrasive and quickly wears out brass nozzles, which can negatively affect the outcome of 3D printed parts.

Due to its versatility, mechanical properties and excellent surface finish, this material is highly recommended for the manufacture of functional prototypes as well as for final parts that need to withstand stress.

It is recommended to print Adura™ X filament at a temperature of 260 - 280°C and a temperature of 60 - 75°C on the hot bed. There are two main factors that are influenced by temperature:

  1. Layer adhesion. The adhesion of the layer increases with increasing temperature. It is advisable to print the first layer at a higher temperature than the rest of the model, both at the nozzle and on the hot bed.
  2. Flow. With increasing temperature, the flow increases (viscosity decreases). This may have to be compensated by an increase in shrinkage distance and perhaps a decrease in flow rate. Conversely, low temperature prints need slightly less shrinkage and perhaps more flow. It is always recommended to use the lowest possible retraction (distance and speed).

Adura™ X filament works on any type of substrate. However, to ensure proper adhesion of the material to the base, it is recommended to use BuildTak, DimaFixPrintaFix or Magigoo PA. The latter adhesive has been developed exclusively for nylon filaments. It must be ensured that the adhesion of the first layer is firm and strong to avoid warping.

In case of warping, the use of Raft is recommended to eliminate possible shrinkage in the printing of the part. It is also advisable to program the Brim, although the effect will be less and there could be a minimal appearance of warping on the base depending on the geometry of the part.

Due to the carbon fibre loads that wear the brass extruders, it is advisable to use a hardened steel nozzle and it is also advisable to use cleaning filament at the end of printing with this filament.
