The Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament is a styrene based type of TPE from the BASF catalog of flexible materials for FFF 3D printing. Ultrafuse TPS 90A is based on SEBS, which makes it capable of absorbing vibrations and able to maintain its elasticity when exposed to very low or high temperatures. The combination of durable and flexible building blocks makes Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament a very versatile material.

Apart from those features inherited from SEBS, Ultrafuse TPS 90A has great interlayer adhesion as well as a unique rubber-like soft touch and better non-slip properties than other flexible 3D printing materials on the market. Another interesting characteristic of Ultrafuse TPS 90A is its biocompatibility. The filament has successfully passed tests for cytotoxicity XTT, skin irritation and skin sensitisation.

The Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament has a low moisture uptake, which means it doesn’t require pre-drying to perform well when 3D printed, only proper storage. Layers in parts printed with Ultrafuse TPS 90A are almost imperceptible and the parts do not show signs of warpage. These properties ensure that any part 3D printed with the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament, especially end-use parts, will have a great surface finish. Furthermore, Ultrafuse TPS 90A adheres very well to ABS and PP, which allows for printing multi-material parts (on 3D printers with dual extrusion).

Like all BASF filaments, the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament is manufactured on state-of-the-art computer-controlled machinery and goes through meticulous quality control in order to ensure that the resulting filament is consistent and reliable. The unique composition and properties of the TPS 90A make it a versatile material for various industrial applications where parts able to maintain their flexibility despite constant use are needed. The bonus are the anti-slip properties, which makes the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament suitable for making non-slip handles for appliances or small series seals and gaskets. The biocompatibility makes the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament apt for medical applications, for example in wearable medical monitoring devices or medical tool housings.

Thanks to its low moisture absorption, the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament does not require drying prior to 3D printing to perform well. Nevertheless, like any filament, Ultrafuse TPS 90A should be stored properly to keep its longevity and quality. The spool can be kept in its original packaging, with a filament drying capsule, or in a vacuum sealed bag. An intelligent filament container can also be used to protect the filament from humidity.

The Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament should be printed at 260-280 ºC on a bed heated to 70-90 ºC in a passively heated chamber. The recommended printing speed is 10-30 mm/s and the best building surface is a PI or PEI printing surface. Should there be adhesion issues, adhesive products such as Magigoo Flex can be used to improve the adhesion of the Ultrafuse TPS 90A filament to the build surface.
