Loctite, in 1997 acquired by Henkel, is a company that develops and manufactures industrial chemicals for gluing and sealing any kind of material and geometry via adhesion and cohesion. Their adhesives are designed to withstand severe impact and peel forces, manifest high shear strength, and provide excellent chemical and temperature resistance. Loctite has developed a line of products dedicated to post processing in 3D printing, to overcome the shortcomings of successful assembly of 3D printed parts together to manufacture functional final pieces. Among those industrial grade adhesives are instant adhesives, such as the Loctite HY 4070Loctite 401 or Loctite 3090.

Using adhesives in manufacturing is a cheaper and faster alternative to other bonding methods, such as mechanical fastening, riveting, welding or soldering. It can reduce the overall manufacturing cost of a product, and increase its longevity and reliability. Instant adhesives are perfect for high-performance bonding of various materials within seconds. Industrial instant adhesives do a great job at conventional bonding, sealing, and gap filling, even of elements that move.

Loctite 3090 is a general use instant 2-component gap filling adhesive that works well at ambient temperature, but can also tolerate temperatures of between -40 ºC to up to +80 ºC. This fast curing (< 24 h) cyanoacrylate adhesive works well with various surfaces, such as most plastics, rubbers and metals. It was designed to bond parts with distinct or undefined bond gaps up to 5 mm, and for uses where the excess of adhesive must cure completely.

Loctite 3090 comes in a syringe-shaped container that mixes two components simultaneously and proportionally. This packaging offers great convenience and the guarantee of a homogeneous mixture with the correct amount of each component to provide maximum adhesion once cured.

Another advantage of this adhesive is its gel consistency, which makes the application of Loctite 3090 easier even with vertical and overhead applications, as the product does not drip. The syringe included with the product guarantees a clean and precise application.

Loctite 3090 is also a great choice for gluing porous materials, such as wood, paper, leather and fabric.

Loctite is perfect for quick emergency repairs as well as for the permanent bonding of 3D printed pieces, thanks to its ease of application, gel consistency, the variety of materials it can work with and the transparent adhesion line.

  1. Clean and degrease the surfaces to be connected.
  2. To improve the adhesion of difficult plastics, apply a primer.
  3. Mount the mixing nozzle and discard the first few drops of the product.
  4. Proceed to apply Loctite 3090 onto one of the surfaces to be glued, in drops or in a continuous line.
  5. Join the pieces immediately, pressing firmly until the adhesive has caught on.
  6. To reinforce the adhesion, apply an additional line of Loctite 3090.
  7. After use, leave the mixing nozzle on to serve as a plug.
  8. Remove the excess of the second glue layer with a wooden stick.
