The Clear Impact resin from the Liqcreate portfolio of engineering photopolymers is an optically clear resin that is perfectly transparent after post-processing. Apart from being transparent, the parts 3D printed with the Clear Impact resin slightly flexible, have an excellent impact resistance, as well as good water and chemical resistance.

The high toughness and impact resistance guaranteed by the Clear Impact resin make it ideal for the production of functional parts that will be repeatedly exposed to stress in engineering and industrial conditions. Furthermore, the low water absorption and weather resistance make the Clear Impact resin perfect for outdoor applications. Anoither aesthetic benefit of this resin is that the transparency effect is long lasting and the part does not yellow fast, as it tends to be the case when epoxy resins are used.

Just like all Liqcreate resins, the Clear Impact resin can be used on most open material resin 3D printers available on the market, for example printers by brands such as Phrozen, XYZ, Formlabs, Creality or Anycubic. This is due to the resin's wide range of compatible light sources (385-405 nm). The manufacturer provides a full list of compatible 3D printers as well as the recommended printing settings.

The Clear Impact resin is ideal for creating clear prototype parts where internal cavities and details of objects need to be visible. Some example applications for this transparent resin by Liqcreate would be transparent LED housings, prototyping lens parts or microfluidic devices.

The post-processing workflow for the Clear Impact resin is quite user-friendly. First, the 3D printed part has to be cleaned for a maximum of 6 minutes in Liqcreate Resin Cleaner, IPA alcohol or bioethanol, preferably ultrasonic or under agitation. Then the completely dried part has to be cured in a high-power UV curing chamber. The curing workflow is explained in detail by the manufacturer here. It absolutely crucial that the parts are dry before they are cured. The curing of wet or sticky parts will lead to mechanical and surface defects. The drying can be done by simply leaving the cleaned part in a well ventilated area for at least 30 minutes or with the help of pressurized air (2 minutes) for parts cleaned in IPA alcohol or ethanol.

With clear resins, it is important to pay extra attention to the post processing. If done incorrectly, the 3D printed parts will yellow overtime. After washing, the part will have a "frosty look" and lose some of its transparency. This is normal and some additional post processing (sanding and polishing, resin dipping, nitrogen UV curing or spray coating) is required to make the part 100 % transparent again. All the necessary steps are explained in this article on the Liqcreate website.

The Liqcreate resin bottles should be stored in a clean and dry environment, out of direct sunlight and in a temperature of 5-30 ºC. Before use, the resin bottle should be shaken energetically for at least 1 minute (at least 3 minutes in the case of filled resins). Once shaken, the resin should be left to rest for around 10 minutes to let the air bubble escape. Leftover resin can be poured back into the bottle but it should be first filtered to ensure there is no polymer residue present. Safety equipment such as protective garments, gloves and face protection is highly recommended for the handling of resin.

More useful resources such as tips on how to use support structures with the Liqcreate resins, or on how to color, age or mix the resins can be found on the Liqcreate support page.
