KeyGuard is a specialized resin from the KeyPrint line, developed for 3D printing custom-fit sports mouthguards using advanced 3D scanning and resin 3D printing technologies. Designed for dental clinics and laboratories, it streamlines mouthguard production by eliminating manual molding and thermoforming processes. This innovation reduces labor costs, minimizes storage requirements, and cuts down on consumables, making it an efficient and cost-effective solution for producing tailored protective devices for athletes.

KeyGuard excels in strength, durability, and protective performance. With an impact strength of 27.5 kJ/m² and impact resistance of 220 J/m, it offers superior protection against dental injuries, reducing the risk of tooth fractures and oral trauma. Its Shore hardness rating of 75-90A ensures an optimal balance between comfort and flexibility, allowing athletes to wear mouthguards for extended periods without interference with breathing and speech. Additionally, its tear strength of 30 kN/m and low water absorption rate (5.7% at 3 hours) ensure resilience under intense athletic conditions, extending product life and reducing replacement needs.

KeyGuard also meets stringent biocompatibility standards, complying with ISO 10993-5, ISO 10993-10, and ISO 10993-23 for cytotoxicity, sensitization, and irritation, respectively. However, its final biocompatibility depends on correct printing and post-processing procedures performed on certified equipment. Therefore, users are responsible for verifying the biocompatibility of each printed part, ensuring safe and effective mouthguard production.

There are certain steps that need to be taken before use. The resin should be tempered to ambient temperature (20-25°C) prior to printing. The bottle should be shaken 1 hour prior to use in order to achieve consistency of the resin and to prevent bubbles. If bubbles are still present, they should be removed with a clean spatula. The KeyPrint resin should only be used in accordance with the product-specific predetermined settings for the user’s DLP 3D printer with a 385-405 nm UV light source. Any other equipment requires validation by the manufacturer.

The post processing of parts 3D printed with the KeyGuard dental resin entails 3 easy steps.

The part should be cleaned with IPA alcohol (at least 97%) just like shown in video 1 and then dried with compressed air for about 15-20 minutes. Residual resin (visibly glossy) should be removed by repeating the washing and drying (never more than 3 minutes of IPA exposure). The manufacturer highly discourages the use of denatured alcohol or ethanol for cleaning as it may diminish or degrade the quality of the finished parts.
The part should be placed in a curing machine (flat to prevent warping). The validated cure box settings can be consulted on the manufacturer’s website. Before the part is removed from the curing machine, it should be allowed to cool completely to prevent surface defects or warping.

Precautions should be taken at all times to ensure user safety. It is recommended to use protective gloves and garments, and a face screen to prevent burns caused by hot resin.
