The PET-CF17 filament, a carbon fiber reinforced PET from the Fiberon catalog, is an advanced composite material known for its high modulus, heat resistance, and dimensional stability, making it ideal for demanding engineering applications. Specifically designed for rapid prototyping and functional parts, this filament maintains impressive strength and an outstanding surface finish thanks to the addition of 17% quality carbon fibers. PET-CF17’s moisture resistance further enhances its reliability, ensuring consistent quality and minimal post-processing requirements for complex applications.

The PET-CF17 filament balances advanced properties with user-friendly printing characteristics, including low creep and compatibility with high-speed printing up to 300 mm/s. The filament does not require an actively heated chamber, enabling reliable results at room temperature. Optimal for 3D printers built for composite extrusion, such as the Raise3D E2CF or Bambu Lab X1C, PET-CF17 also supports multimaterial systems, like Bambu Lab's AMS module. To ensure longevity and consistent print quality, an abrasion-resistant nozzle is recommended.

To boost the thermal and mechanical performance, PET-CF17 parts should undergo a 120 ºC annealing process for 10 hours. This process requires careful handling to prevent deformation. Guidelines include waiting 24 hours after printing (or drying at 80 ºC for 2 hours) to relieve internal stresses, ensuring uniform oven temperatures, and adding supports (PolySupport for PA12) for parts with overhangs, thin walls, or bridging structures. For optimal results, parts should be placed in the oven in the same orientation as during printing, ideally on the build plate itself, ensuring precise dimensional accuracy and long-term stability.

To achieve optimal print quality with the Fiberon PET-CF17 filament, it is recommended to set the extrusion temperature between 270-300 ºC, and the print bed should be maintained between 70-80 ºC. A room temperature for the build chamber is sufficient, and it is best to keep the cooling fan turned off. Fiberon PET-CF17 supports high-speed printing with speeds of up to 300 mm/s, making it suitable for projects where efficiency is crucial.

Proper filament storage is essential for maintaining the quality of Fiberon PET-CF17. To prevent compromised print quality due to moisture, it should be stored in a sealed container with desiccant. If the filament absorbs excess moisture, drying it at 100 ºC for 10 hours in a filament dryer is recommended (or PolyDryer at level 3 for 18 hours) to restore its optimal printing properties.

Since the Fiberon PET-CF17 filament contains abrasive carbon fibers, it is highly recommended to use an abrasion resistant nozzle (hardnened steel, vanadium, ruby tip, etc) to avoid its excessive wear and, in consequence, inferior part quality.
