The PC PBT GF filament from Treed Filaments is an affordable engineering filament with superior mechanical strength and dimensional stability thanks to the uniform distribution of high-quality glass fibers achieved through precise mixing and strict quality control. Its anthracite grey color provides an attractive finish, and it is designed to be printed on open printers without the need for a heated chamber. This filament is also very affordable, making it an excellent choice for cost-effective, high-performance 3D printing.

The PC PBT GF filament

The PC PBG GF filament from Treed Filaments offers excellent mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 78 MPa, a tensile modulus of 6100 MPa, and a flexural modulus of 6000 MPa. It provides good impact resistance, with Charpy impact values of 16 kJ/m² at 23 ºC and 8 kJ/m² at -30 ºC. As far as thermal performance, the filament offers a thermal conductivity of 0.20 W/m-ºC and a heat deflection temperature (HDT) of 156 ºC at 0.45 MPa and 120 ºC at 1.8 MPa, making it suitable for high-performance applications.

PC PBT GF vs PA GF

PC-PBT filament with glass fibers combines the impact resistance of polycarbonate, the chemical resistance and good lubrication of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), and added stiffness from glass fibers, making it ideal for high-strength, durable applications in the automotive, aerospace, electronics, and industrial sectors. Its other advanced features sich as thermal stability, chemical resistance, dielectric strength, and flame retardancy make it suitable for components exposed to high temperatures, chemicals, and mechanical stress, and a great substitute for PA GF in certain applications.

The recommended extruder temperature for the PC PBT GF filament is 250-270 ºC, with a heated bed at 90°C, and a hardened steel nozzle with a minimum diameter of 0.4 mm due to the contents of abrasive glass fibers. A 5 mm minimum wall thickness is required for optimal results.

Print speed should be set between 30-60 mm/s, with the fan turned off (0%). Avoid leaving the filament idle in the nozzle for more than 20 minutes, and if the temperature drops below 210 ºC, it's best to stop the thermal control to prevent clogging.

PC PBT GF should be stored in adequate conditions to ensure optimal filament and part quality. It is best to store the spool in a sealed plastic bag with a desiccant capsule or in a specialized airtight container. For best results pre-dry the filament in a filament dryer at 85 ºC for 2 hours.
