Fluorodur is a filament developed by the renowned Czech manufacturer Fillamentum. Fillamentum stands for the production of high-quality technical filaments under the brand name Fillamentum Industrial. Under this brand are various advanced materials for demanding applications, including Fluorodur.

Fluorodur is a filament made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). PVDF is an advanced plastic (fluoropolymer) with excellent mechanical, chemical and thermal properties. It stands out as a plastic that is inert to most chemical compounds (except caustic solutions and ketones), which, together with its high thermal resistance, makes it a material with great potential in the chemical industry.

This material is manufactured using Arkema's Kynar® PVDF, an ideal choice for the development of highly durable materials.

Fluorodur 3D printed parts have the following properties:

  • High temperature resistance
  • Tensile strength
  • Excellent weather resistance
  • Self-extinguishing* behaviour
  • High impact resistance
  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • High density
  • Hardness
  • Good electrical insulation
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Recyclable material
  • Low gas permeability
  • Non-stick surface

Thus, parts printed with Fluorodur are distinguished by their thermal resistance and chemical resistance to chemicals and solvents: automotive fluids, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, bases, ozone and water. In addition, Fluorodur is resistant to chemicals at temperatures up to 110 °C.

Thanks to its electrical insulating properties, parts made of Fluorodur are safe for use in electrical and electronic equipment.

As a material for FDM 3D printing, Fluorodur provides an excellent surface finish. In addition, this material offers great adhesion between layers, despite being prone to warping.

Undoubtedly, Fluorodur is an industrial grade material thanks to its properties, allowing the manufacture of semi-flexible parts with extreme durability. At the same time, despite being an advanced material, it can be printed with almost any FDM 3D printer on the market.

* It meets the requirements of class V-0. It should be noted that the final product must always be tested under the specific conditions.

Fluorodur filament requires a printing temperature of between 250 and 270 ºC and a printing base temperature of about 100 ºC. In addition, as it is an advanced material, it is advisable to use a 3D printer with a heated chamber or, failing that, a passive heated chamber or total enclosure.

It is not recommended to use a layer fan when 3D printing parts with Fluorodur. This improves the adhesion between layers. In case the geometry of the part to be printed has bridges or overhangs, or you want to print at high speeds, it is possible to use the layer fan at a maximum of 15 %.

This material has a high tendency to warp. For this reason, it is recommended to use an adhesive such as Dimafix or Magigoo PA. It is also very useful to use Brim around the part. When generating a design for 3D printing in this material, corners in contact with the printing surface should be avoided as far as possible, as they can increase the warping effect.

For more information, we recommend reading the printing guide and the material recommendations document, which can be found in the "Downloads" section.
