PLA Skin
Smart Materials is a Spanish manufacturer of 3D printing materials that offers both industrial and conventional filaments, among which PLA and ABS stand out for their quality and variety of colours.
PLA (polylactic acid) is a biodegradable plastic obtained from natural resources, specifically from starch extracted from corn, beet and wheat. It is one of the most widely used materials in 3D printing today because it does not give off harmful gases and because it is easy to print. In addition, it is a material with almost no warping.
The filaments of the PLA SKIN range, as the name suggests, are filaments whose colours simulate human skin, so they are intended for use in medical-anatomical applications as well as 3D modelling.
There are three colours: Pale Skin, a light skin colour; Tan Skin, a slightly darker colour; and medium Skin, a medium colour between the two previous ones.
PLA Skin is a filament created with top quality materials, without incorporating recycled or recovered material, it is biodegradable, like many of the Smart materials filaments, as it is committed to sustainability, using its own management system and integrated to its needs. In addition, this filament has very good mechanical properties and excellent printing quality.
Possible applications include anatomical models, orthoses, prototyping or decorative objects, as well as large parts.
Printed parts are generally easy to post-process, as they can be sanded, polished and painted. PLA Skin filament is ideal for users starting out in the world of 3D printing due to its ease of printing.
3D printing with PLA is simpler and easier than with ABS. It is not necessary that the printing base is hot, although if possible it is recommended that the base is at 40-50 ºC approximately, to avoid any signs of warping. The extruder temperature should be between 190 and 210 ºC depending on the colour and the 3D printer used.
If the printer has a layer fan, it is recommended that you activate it for best results.
The adhesion of the first layer is key and probably one of the most important factors for good prints, so you can use Blue Tape, BuildTak, Magigoo or 3DLac.
