Delta 3D printer with a 500 ºC hotend, 4-gear extruder and actively heated chamber.

The DeltaS is a state-of-the art FDM 3D printer by Plasmics, an Austrian startup at the forefront of 3D printing innovation. The DeltaS 3D printer is a fully enclosed Delta 3D printer with an actively heated chamber (max. 80 ºC), a build volume of Ø 200 x 250 mm, an extrusion temperature of 500 ºC, a bed temperature of 140 ºC and a printing speed of 250 mm/s (acceleration of 10000 mm/s²). DeltaS runs on Klipper, which means faster and more efficient operation even at high printing speeds.

The sleek design of the DeltaS printer

These technical parameters as well as the printer's advanced extrusion system allow it to provide excellent results with an incredibly wide range of filaments, from general purpose polymers such as PLA, ASA, ABS, HIPS or PETG through engineering materials such as PVA, PC, PP, TPU/TPE or PA, all the way to high performance polymers such as PEEK, PEKK and Ultem, as well as carbon/glass fiber reinforced materials, metal-filled filaments, or wood-infused polymers.

Body

The DeltaS 3D printer was build with premium materials to ensure reliability, stability, sturdiness and optimal heat management. Thus, the frame of the printer is made of metal and the effector's arms are made of a carbon-reinforced material. The printer has the dimensions of 450 x 450 x 970 mm and it weighs 60 kg. The DeltaS printer can work at temperatures between 15 ºC and 30 ºC (10-90% humidity, non-condensing) and it should be stored at no less than -25 ºC and no more than 55 ºC (10-90% humidity, non-condensing).

The DeltaS printer's design includes a fully enclosed, actively heated build chamber that can go up to 80 ºC. An actively heated chamber in an FDM 3D printer provides more reliable printing conditions, reduces the likelihood of print failures, and expands the range of materials that can be used, ultimately leading to higher-quality prints. For optimal airflow and heat distribution, the chamber includes an efficient impeller.

The LEDs fulfill the role of status indicators

In order to make the DeltaS printer even more efficient, Plasmics has included status-indicating LED strips on the front of the printer. These LEDs provide visual indicators of the printer's current state and can alert users to issues such as print completion, errors, or malfunctions, enhancing user experience and facilitating troubleshooting.

The DeltaS printer also has an inbuilt, fully enclosed heated filament chamber (up to 45 ºC) for filament storage, equipped with a system for automatic filament feeding. This filament chamber is a drawer located at the bottom of the printer, and it offers a compact integrated filament storage and maintenance solution that eliminates the need for a separate filament dryer. This solution is perfect for those who work with demaning technical materials and need to keep them in optimal conditions during printing and inbetween printing sessions.

Extrusion

As far as the extrusion system, Plasmics has pushed the boundaries and chosen highly innovative solutions for the DeltaS printer. The printer is equipped with the revolutionary INo Trident induction-heated hotend and the FourRunner 4-gear extruder.

The heart of the DeltaS printer is the INo Trident hotend

The lightweight and compact aluminum INo Trident hotend by Plasmics is a groundbreaking induction-heated and water-cooled hotend. This hotend is characterized by rapid heat-up times of 4 seconds to 250 °C thanks to the innovative induction heating system, as well as extremely fast cooldown times thanks to the compact design.

The hardened tool steel nozzle is suitable for printing with abrasive materials

Equipped with a K-type thermocouple, the INo Trident hotend provides accurate temperature readings directly from the nozzle, ensuring consistent functionality. The INo Trident hotend comes with a 0.4 mm nozzle made of hardened tool steel, ideal for working with filaments reinforced with abrasive fibers or particles. The nozzle can reach temperatures of up to 500 ºC, which means compatibility with advanced materials such as the PAEK family.

The 4-gear FourRunner extruder ensures a tight filament grip and a controlled extrusion

The FourRunner extruder by Plasmics is a compact and light extruder equipped with a 36 mm pancake stepper motor. The closed-loop design of the motor allows for more precise control over the motor's position, torque, and speed, resulting in improved accuracy and performance compared to traditional open-loop stepper systems. The FourRunner extruder has 4 gears (1:6.54 ratio), which implies more contact points and a larger contact area for filament, guaranteeing superior control over filament grip and extrusion.

Build plate

The DeltaS printer is equipped with a build plate capable of reaching 140 ºC. The automatic leveling and homing marks ensure precise calibration for every print job. The DeltaS printer has a removable build surface, crafted from flexible steel with a durable PEI coating for optimal adhesion during printing and effortless removal of finished prints. This combination of features guarantees an efficient and user-friendly printing experience, empowering creators to achieve consistently high-quality results with ease.

Smart features

To streamline the printing process in highly dynamic printing environments, Plasmics has equipped the DeltaS printer with numerous intelligent features. Firstly, the DeltaS printer can be used with any laminating software, which gives the users incredible flexibility and freedom in the 3D printing workflow. This feature is extremely valuable for professionals and many industries that may already have their preferred laminating software and do not want to risk an efficiency decrease due to the need to implement a new laminating software.

As far as connectivity, the DeltaS printer offers WiFi and LAN. These connectivity options provide remote monitoring and control, allowing users to manage prints from anywhere with internet access, transfer files directly to the printer, perform over-the-air firmware updates, access to cloud storage services, and enable multiple user access. For file transfer, the printer's USB port can also be used. Remote monitoring is further enabled by DeltaS's integrated camera. This camera is used in conjunction with machine learning algorithms that perform detection and recognition tasks and thus enable real-time detection, monitoring, and decision-making.

Another smart feature included in the DeltaS printer is the Sensor Array feature. This advanced filament sensor array offers real-time measurements of filament diameter in both the X and Y directions, along with length and forces exerted during printing. This data is crucial for making dynamic extrusion multiplier adjustments, thereby enhancing the overall print quality. By providing precise measurements throughout the printing process, this innovative system eliminates guesswork and minimizes the risk of failed prints. Additionally, the sensor array includes an integrated filament runout detector, further ensuring uninterrupted printing operations. Together, these features streamline the printing experience, allowing users to achieve consistent and reliable results with ease.

Ideal for industrial applications

Thanks to its smart design, heated chamber, high-temperature and abrasion-resistant nozzle, as well as the thermally efficient hotend and highly precise extruder, the DeltaS printer is ideal for highly demanding environments where quality and productivity are of utmost importance, and where advanced filaments are used frequently. The intelligent features of the DeltaS printer such as the integrated filament storage, inbuilt intelligent camera, LED status indicators, compatibility with any laminating software, WiFi and LAN connectivity, and advanced filament monitoring, the DeltaS printer will be an excellent 3D printer for high volume prototyping and end-part manufacturing, also as part of high performance 3D printer farms.
