Biocompatible, tasteless and odorless dental resin for indirect bonding trays.

KeyPrint, part of the KeyStone industries, is a line of precision 3D printing resins for the dental industry. The KeyPrint line includes the KeyOrtho IBT resin designed for the additive manufacturing of indirect bonding trays for positioning brackets. KeyOrtho IBT is a biocompatible (class 1) liquid photopolymer resin intended to be used in DLP printers utilizing wavelengths between 385-405 nm, for example the Phrozen Sonic XL 4K. The full list of validated 3D printers can be found in the Downloads section.

The KeyOrtho IBT resin is characterized by high flexibility and elongation at break, as well as its non-stick properties which make it easy to release the bonding tray from dental cement. Their translucency, strength, flexibility, and precision allow for precise positioning before and during bracket placement (compatible with all general bracket systems). This dramatically reduces chair time as thanks to the IBT 3D printed with the KeyOrtho IBT resin the brackets can be applied in a single step. Furthermore, the finished product is tasteless and odorless to increase patient comfort.

With proper post-processing the KeyOrtho IBT resin will give fully biocompatible indirect bonding trays for dental bracket placement, making the turnout time much shorter for dental offices, enabling faster delivery of the product to the client, and a pleasant and comfortable experience for the patient thanks to the quick application and lack of taste and odor of the 3D printed indirect bonding tray. Like all KeyPrint dental resins, the KeyOrtho IBT resin allows for a lot of flexibility in the 3D printing workflow thanks to the wide compatibility with 3D printers and post-processing equipment.

There are certain steps that need to be taken before use. The resin should be tempered to ambient temperature (20-25°C) prior to printing. The bottle should be shaken 1 hour prior to use in order to achieve consistency of the resin and to prevent bubbles. If bubbles are still present, they should be removed with a clean spatula. The KeyPrint resin should only be used in accordance with the product-specific predetermined settings for the user’s DLP 3D printer with a 385nm - 405 nm UV light source. Any other equipment requires validation by the manufacturer.

The post processing of parts 3D printed with the KeyOrtho IBT dental resin consists in washing and curing. A tray 3D printed with KeyOrtho IBT and post-processed just like shown in the video provided by the manufacturer is a biocompatible medical device effective for its intended use.

As demonstrated in the video, the part should be cleaned with IPA alcohol (at least 97%) twice (fresh IPA alcohol each time) and then dried with compressed air. Residual resin will be visibly glossy and should be removed by repeating the washing and drying steps. Once the parts are clean, they must be cured. They should be placed in the validated curing machine (flat to prevent warping). The validated cure box settings can be consulted on the manufacturer’s website.

More information about the KeyOrtho IBT resin can be found in the Downloads section. The KeyPrint KeyOrtho IBT resin should be stored in a cool, dry place and away from light. Precautions should be taken at all times to ensure user safety. It is recommended to use protective gloves and garments, and a face screen to prevent burns caused by hot resin.
