Crafted for the purpose of 3D printing high-fidelity statues, display models, collectibles and prototypes, the fast-curing ADM-3 resin from AmeraLabs stands out as a low-odor solution available in both black and grey variants. This resin is hihgly pigmented to achieve optimal color fidelity, accentuating even the most intricate details such as hair, wrinkles and sharp edges. Exhibiting near-complete opacity, the resin yields a glossy, robust surface. After post-curing, the parts have a non-sticky, scratch-resistant finish and can be polished to eliminate surface layers and support marks, or painted.

The AMD-3 resin showcases commendable mechanical attributes ideal for various applications. Its tensile strength at break, tested post-curing according to ISO-527 standards, impressively reaches 55 MPa, ensuring robustness and reliability in structural integrity. Additionally, with an elongation at break of 6 %, it exhibits a balanced flexibility, crucial for parts subjected to dynamic stress.

Its viscosity, ranging between 180 to 200 cPs at 25 °C, facilitates smooth printing processes, enhancing operational efficiency. Moreover, boasting a hardness range of 80-90 Shore D, as per ISO 868, it guarantees durability and resistance to deformation. Furthermore, its minimal shrinkage, less than 1 %, underscores its exceptional dimensional stability, ensuring accurate and precise prints consistently.

In addition to its formidable mechanical properties, the AMD-3 resin offers a certain degree of chemical and moisture resistance, making it an ideal choice for demanding environments. With a water absorption rate of less than 0.2 %, it ensures that models remain unaffected by moisture or exposure to IPA, maintaining their integrity over time. Furthermore, its resistance to certain acids further enhances its durability in various industrial settings. Notably, the AMD-3 resin serves as an excellent alternative to the TGM-7 resin, particularly for applications requiring highly detailed and resilient models exposed to harsh conditions.

Compatible 3D printers

The AMD-3 3D resin is compatible with both MSLA (Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K, Zortrax Inkspire, etc.) and DLP (Anycubic Photon D2) resin 3D printers with 365-420 nm light sources. However, it's important to note that the TGM-7 resin cannot be used with laser-based resin 3D printers which utilize VAT trays lined with PDMS silicone (e.g., Formlabs 3D printers). 3D printing profiles for this resin can be consulted here.

Printing

For those who are only beginning their adventure with resin 3D printing, we recommend reading the Beginner's Guide to AmeraLabs resins as well as referring to the troubleshooting guide prepared by AmeraLabs in case any problems occur while 3D printing with the AMD-3 resin.

Post-processing

Parts 3D printed with the AMD-3 resin will achieve their specific properties only after being subjected to post-processing by washing and curing.

Washing

AmeraLabs recommends using IPA alcohol for the washing and the washing time will largely depend on the washing equipment used. If a washing station is used, the average washing time is 6 minutes and a second wash of 6 minutes if required. If an ordinary bucket system and manual cleaning are used, the parts should be submerged for 2 minutes, swirled for 2 minutes, submerged for another 2 minutes in IPA, and swirled again for 2 minutes. If an ultrasonic cleaner is used, it is recommended not to go over 10 minutes of cleaning.

Post-curing

Once washed, the parts 3D printed with the AMD-3 resin must be dried and cured immediately either with the help of a curing station (with our without supports). The recommended curing times will depend on the used equipment but can range from anywhere between 5 to 60 minutes (until the surface of the part is not sticky anymore).  The rule of thumb is that parts should be cured until not sticky anymore.

Safety

Certain precautions must be taken when working with 3D printing resins. The user must ensure that the working space is adequately ventilated, and that protective goggles, gloves and garments are worn at all times. The AMD-3 resin should be stored in a tightly closed container/resin vat to avoid resin deterioration due to UV exposure. The container/vat should be kept in a cool, well ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flame. To get a better idea of how to work with the AmeraLabs resins safely, please read the manufacturer's blog post on the most common resin safety myths.
