Black Nylon 180 3D printer filament is a durable high performance polyamide 12 (PA12) with high tensile strength. This type of polyamide is widely used in automotive, machinery and industry as it combines mechanical strength, flexibility and chemical resistance (oils, greases, gasoline...) and superior thermal. Its elongation is between 100 and 350% which makes it one of the filaments with greater resistance to fatigue. On the other hand it presents a good resistance to insertions under pressure and it's a very lightweight plastic. The main applications are usually in metal replacement applications, such as consoles, gears, pulleys, sprockets and industrial damping machinery.

The most outstanding feature of the Nylon 180 3D print filament is that it withstands up to 180 °C temperature without softening which is a great advantage over the other filaments used in 3D printing.

Nylon 180 (PA12) is a superior performance filament only recommended for users with extensive experience in 3D printing because it is a complicated filament to print due to the high warping effect it presents, hence it is only possible to print using A glue mixture and water (see tab of usage tips) at the base of the printer on the glass.

The finish of this filament is quite smooth which gives it low friction properties (great slippage).

Each Nylon 180 (1.75mm or 3mm) filament spool/coil contains 750 grams of filament and although this is one of the nylon filaments with lower moisture absorption it is advisable in case you have a filament dryer dry it for 2-3 hours at ~ 80 ° C.

As detailed in the main product description, this Nylon 180 filament is only suitable for users with extensive experience in 3D printing as it presents certain printing complications that can only be addressed with extensive 3D printing knowledge. The main difficulties of printing the Nylon 180 are the pronounced warping effect as well as the consistency between layers.

First of all it is imperative to mix white carpenter's glue (tail) with water to be able to apply it on the area of the glass of the base of the 3D printer on which it is going to be printed. The following explanatory video shows how to make this mixture. At the end of applying with the brush the mixture is recommended to wash it or leave it in a glass full of water so that the mixture does not dry and so can be used in the next application.

In addition to the mixture to apply in the base of the 3D printer will have to take into account the following recommendations:

  1. As for the printing comment it is advisable to print the first layer of the printing at low speed and with the extruder as close as possible to the glass to ensure a good adhesion of this first layer.
  2. Two or three lines of Brim should be used, so the extruder will be fully loaded with the new filament at the time the piece starts printing.
  3. For parts with a large flat face, it is recommended to reduce the printing speed and increase the number of surface layers to ensure that there is no pore in the part, especially if a low internal fill factor has been used.
  4. In small pieces or with little surface of union with the base it is advisable to use Raft.
  5. Once the printing is finished it is advisable to remove the filament from the extruder completely (Use after cleaning filament) and store the coil in an airtight bag. If the coil has not been stored properly it is recommended to dry it by inserting it in a filament dryer for three hours at 80 ° C.
