Addlantis by add:north is a recycled nylon filament for 3d fdm printing, made from recovered fishing nets within the framework of the Circular Ocean project, developed in collaboration with Peniche Ocean Watch. This sustainable material represents a new standard in circular economy applied to additive manufacturing, by reducing the carbon footprint by 92% compared to virgin PA6 nylon, without compromising technical performance.

Entirely made from discarded fishing nets collected in portuguese fishing ports, Addlantis is a high-quality filament with excellent thermal, mechanical, and environmental properties. Thanks to its heat resistance up to 150 °c, its durability against uv rays, and its structural hardness, it positions itself as an ideal solution both for functional parts and sustainable design applications. The matte surface with slight color variations highlights its recycled origin, providing a unique aesthetic highly valued by designers and creators committed to sustainability.

Video 1: Add:north has succeeded in turning discarded fishing nets, which pollute the oceans, into a nylon filament with excellent mechanical and thermal properties.

This material, developed in sweden by add:north, has been optimized with mineral additives that minimize warping and improve print quality. Although these additives can slightly reduce layer adhesion in thin wall prints, using nozzles from 0.6 to 0.8 mm is recommended to improve structural integrity. Additionally, proper drying before and during printing is essential, given the highly hygroscopic nature of recycled nylon.

The Addlantis project is an exemplary case of advanced reuse: nets that previously ended in landfills are now transformed into 3d filaments for durable, resistant, and environmentally responsible parts. A real example is the use case of Häxkraft, where a gardening tool was designed and manufactured from this material, demonstrating the viability of recycled nylon in demanding outdoor applications.

Video 2: Addlantis, the nylon filament created from recycled fishing nets, has been used to manufacture gardening tools.

Addlantis not only allows manufacturing with ecological awareness, but also proves it is possible to combine design, functionality, and sustainability in a single 3d printing solution. Its technical performance and responsible origin make it a strategic choice for those seeking to reduce the environmental impact of their projects without sacrificing professional quality.
