Monkey TPU Soft 50 is a SLS 3D printing powder made with TPU by Powder Monkeys, a manufacturer that stands out for its powders for domestic SLS printers. Linear thermoplastic urethane-based elastomers, also known as TPE-U or TPU, are a group of block copolymers of polyols and diisocyanates. The proportion between both polymers will determine the final properties of the material, being able to obtain from semi-rigid materials to materials with high elasticity.
Its most common applications include coatings for cables, manufacture of hoses and tubes, elastic textile components, shoe soles, waterproofing, vibration dampers, "soft-touch" elements in consumer products or wheels. Since their discovery, they have carved out a significant niche for themselves in the industry, coming to replace rubber in multiple applications.
The Monkey TPU Soft 50 powder has a slight shine thanks to its spherical particles, which offer high fluidity and minimal smoke production during processing. The resulting SLS components offer great flexibility with an elongation at break comparable to parts obtained by injection. In addition, they are very soft and have a pleasant touch (Shore A hardness ~ 50), therefore they are ideal for the production of shoe soles, orthopedic components, etc. While other TPU powders suffer from the problem of hydrolysis, Monkey TPU Soft 50 powder is very resistant and can be washed at 60°C without any problem.
Optimized for desktop SLS devices, Powder Monkey TPU Soft 50 allows for the highest level of detail possible.
Apart from its good finish, another aspect to highlight of Soft TPU Powder 50 is its excellent fluidity.
For the best 3D printing results, the powder should be applied as smoothly as possible. For this reason, the TPU powder has been optimized to guarantee the best possible fluidity.
Also, with sustainability in mind, Powder Monkeys manufactures its products to have as little impact as possible.
Monkey TPU Soft 50 powder is optimized for low thermal aging, resulting in minimal waste. This makes its price look reduced and, at the same time, protects the environment.
Indicated for use in SLS systems with low laser power, Monkey TPU Soft 50 powder allows to obtain pieces that are extremely similar to rubber, very soft and very flexible.

When using this material, equipment with open parameters must be available to allow the use of materials from third-party manufacturers. This option may not be available on all devices, but can be implemented through an upgrade. In the case of Sinterit devices, this can be done through the Advanced Studio.
1.5 mm is the minimum wall thickness when using TPU powder. 3D printed parts with 1.5 mm walls will be very flexible, but it is also possible to make it more rigid by increasing the wall thickness to 3 mm.
When designing details for a TPU part, a minimum size of 0.5 mm is recommended. For the visibility of embossed and engraved details, their height and width should not be less than 1.5 mm.
As a powder-based technology, SLS can create closed, interlocking parts, but this requires a clearance of at least 1 mm between them. In the case of large objects, this gap must be increased.
To reduce printing time and save material, the user can empty the part. However, it should be noted that the holes should have a diameter of at least 1.5 mm to help remove dust adhering inside the part after the printing process.
