Monkey TPU Hard 80 is a SLS 3D printing powder made with TPU by Powder Monkeys, a leading company in sustainable SLS powders. The TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is a thermoplastic, more specifically a linear elastomeric polymer belonging to the family of polyurethanes. This material is characterized by its high resistance to abrasion, certain chemical elements, UV rays and low temperatures.
Its most common applications include elements that require high resistance to wear and abrasion, such as part protections, parts with good shock absorption, resistance to chemical elements (grease, oils, oxygen and ozone) or resistance to UV rays.
The Monkey TPU Hard 80 powder, with a Shore hardness of approx. 80, offers the best properties to obtain more resistant and durable components for the manufacture of p. eg collars, plugs, slide stops, etc. The resulting SLS parts offer greater dimensional stability. In addition, the powder is totally reusable.
The mechanical properties of the materials processed in desktop SLS equipment are comparable to those of industrial equipment. Monkey TPU Hard 80 has high chemical resistance and can be washed without problems (it is not affected by hydrolysis). In addition, it has an extremely high elongation at break comparable to that of rubber.
Apart from its properties, another aspect to highlight about Hard 80 TPU Powder is its excellent fluidity.
For the best 3D printing results, the powder should be applied as smoothly as possible. For this reason, the TPU powder has been optimized to guarantee the best possible fluidity.
Also, with sustainability in mind, Powder Monkeys manufactures its products to have as little impact as possible.
Monkey TPU Hard 80 powder is optimized for low thermal aging, resulting in minimal waste. This makes its price look reduced and, at the same time, protects the environment.
With Monkey TPU Hard 80 powder, each piece is a success and high resistance components are obtained with mechanical parameters comparable to components manufactured by industrial injection.

When using this material, equipment with open parameters must be available to allow the use of materials from third-party manufacturers. This option may not be available on all devices, but can be implemented through an upgrade. For Sinterit devices, this can be done through Advanced Studio.
To make the most out of the benefits of Monkey TPU Hard 80 powder, the minimum wall thickness of the material should be respected to avoid any problems during the additive manufacturing process. 1.5 mm is the minimum wall thickness when using TPU powder. 3D printed parts with 1.5 mm walls will be very flexible, but can also be made more rigid by increasing the wall thickness to 3 mm.
When designing details for a TPU part, a minimum size of 0.5 mm is recommended. For the visibility of embossed and engraved details, their height and width should not be less than 1.5 mm.
As a powder bed technology, SLS can create closed, interlocking parts, eliminating the need to assemble individually printed components. For this to be successful, the clearance between parts needs to be a minimum of 1 mm. For large objects, the clearance must be increased.
Hollowing out the part can be useful, as it reduces printing time and saves material. However, when doing so, it should not be forgotten that the holes should have a diameter of at least 1.5 mm to help remove dust adhering inside the part after the printing process.
