The Formart SE machine comes with a few useful accessories such as the webbing removal kit. Webbing in vacuum forming refers to thin strands or strings of excess material that may form between the mold and the formed part during the vacuum forming process.

More on the operation of the Formart SE machine, as well as common forming issues and their solutions can be found on the My Yard support page.

The mold

The Formart SE sets a maximum mold height of 160 mm and offers a 4 different forming area sizes: 300 x 205 mm, 300 x 300 mm, 420 x 300 mm or 500 x 300 mm. The work area can be adjusted with the help of the included sheet size change kit, as shown in the video:

Mold possibilities range from 3D printed models to real-life objects, excluding those containing water or debris that could harm the pump module. Given that vacuum forming applies pressure to molds, users should assess the thickness and fragility of their molds. It's also crucial to consider that objects with a height of 160 mm but narrow width may pose a challenge for vacuuming. Maintaining a moderate height-to-width ratio is advised for optimal vacuuming.

A real-life object can be used as a mold as well

For thin or delicate objects, adding internal support structures is recommended to enhance stability during forming. Regarding the lifespan of 3D printed molds, PLA molds typically endure 3 to 5 moldings, ABS molds around 30 to 50, while resin molds can withstand hundreds of moldings.

More on what should be kept in mind when choosing a mold for working with Formart SE can be found on the My Yard support page.

The forming sheets

The Formart SE accommodates sheets ranging from 0.3 mm to 3 mm in thickness, offering versatility across various materials like LDPE, PP, PET, HIPS, or TPU sheets available through My Yard. These materials are entirely safe, emitting no toxic gases, and feature a convenient QR code scanned by the machine. As far as sheet size, it can be 4 different sizes thanks to the adjustable work area.

Leveraging its extensive database of pre-programmed settings, Formart SE seamlessly integrates sheets from any supplier. However, some materials, such as PVC, PC, or ABS, may necessitate workspace ventilation and the use of adequate breathing equipment. Forming temperatures range from 60 to 230 ºC, with the Formart SE pre-programmed with suitable temperatures for certain materials (e.g., PLA, TPU, FPC, PET, HIPS, PS, PETG, HDPE, PE, ABS, PP, PVC, PMMA, PC, KYDEX, PSU, etc.).

Formart SE comes with dozens of pre-configured material settings

Adhering to these recommendations ensures materials are not heated to their melting points, minimizing gas formation. Users can experiment with new materials at their responsibility. The Formart SE machine enables users to save settings for future use in any of the 5 available program slots.
