ASA pellets for manufacturing 3D printing filaments with an extruder.

ASA is a thermoplastic that combines mechanical strength, UV resistance, water resistance and a great finish. Another of its outstanding properties is that it does not "yellow" over time, making it a perfect material for outdoor applications.

ASA pellets are small cylinders of the highest quality material. They do not incorporate recycled or reclaimed material. Thanks to these qualities, ASA pellets are perfect for 3D printing, achieving high print quality. There are several methods for using pellets in 3D printing:

  • ASA pellets can be used in the manufacture of filament for FDM 3D printers using Filastruder or any other filament extruder.
  • It is possible to use a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing.

To obtain different colours, the ASA material pellets must be combined with the desired dyes. In this way, custom colours can be achieved. This can be very useful, as in some cases it can be difficult to find the exact colour required for each application. This is a great advantage, especially when producing small series of parts in a particular colour.

With the combination of ASA Pellets and a good filament extruder such as Filastruder, it is possible to obtain 3D printing filament with qualities similar to those of commercial ASA filament.

When using ASA Pellets to make filament with a filament extruder such as Filastruder or using a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing, it should be noted that the extrusion temperature must be regulated in relation to the extrusion speed used. For optimal results, it is recommended to read the product's usage advice.

Thanks to their properties, ASA pellets are suitable for making functional and durable final machine parts or prototypes. Compared to ABS, ASA is more water resistant, more rigid and much easier to 3D print, as it has less warping effect. In addition, when 3D printing this material, it can be used in combination with soluble support materials for easy removal.

When using ASA pellets for filament manufacturing or direct 3D printing, it should be noted that 3D printing with this material is easier than with other materials such as ABS. However, it can have a warping effect, so it is recommended to use an adhesive such as Magigoo or 3DLac.

It should also be noted that this material should be extruded in a well-ventilated room, as the vapours given off during this process are not entirely healthy.
