3D850 PLA pellets for manufacturing 3D printing filament with an extruder.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a biodegradable plastic obtained from natural resources such as starch extracted from corn, sugar beet and wheat. PLA is one of the most widely used materials in 3D printing today because it does not give off harmful gases and is easy to print.

PLA 3D850 is a high resolution, high stiffness, low shrinkage material. It has a higher hot flow rate than standard PLA and excellent adhesion to printing surfaces, a feature that optimises the quality of the first layer and minimises the risk of warping.

However, the highlights of PLA 3D850 are its improved mechanical properties, impact resistance and high temperature resistance.

3D850 PLA pellets are small cylinders of the highest quality material and do not incorporate recycled or reclaimed material. Thanks to these qualities, 3D850 PLA pellets are perfect for 3D printing, achieving high print quality. There are several methods for using pellets in 3D printing:

  • 3D850 PLA pellets can be used in the manufacture of filament for FDM 3D printers using Filastruder or any other filament extruder.
  • It is possible to use a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing.

To obtain different colours, the 3D850 PLA material pellets must be combined with the desired dyes. In this way, custom colours can be achieved. This can be very useful, as in some cases it can be difficult to find the exact colour required for each application. This is a great advantage, especially when producing small series of parts in a particular colour.

With the combination of PLA 3D850 Pellets and a good filament extruder such as Filastruder, it is possible to obtain 3D printing filament with similar qualities to a commercial PLA 3D850 filament.

When using PLA 3D850 Pellets to make filament with a filament extruder such as Filastruder or using a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing, it should be noted that the extrusion temperature must be regulated in relation to the extrusion speed used. For optimal results, it is recommended to read the product's usage tips.

The suitable temperature for extruding PLA 3D850 pellets in the Filastruder is between 220 and 230ºC. For higher extrusion speeds, the temperature can be increased to 240°C, but in this case there is a risk of small air bubbles appearing in the filament.

This material is highly hygroscopic. It is therefore very important to store PLA 3D850 pellets in an airtight bag or use desiccant bags to prevent them from absorbing moisture before use. If the pellets have moisture in them, the filament to be manufactured may contain small imperfections. Once the filament has been manufactured using 3D850 PLA pellets, it is also recommended to store the filament in a dry place or in an airtight bag. This prevents the filament from absorbing moisture, thus obtaining better results during 3D printing.
