Polycarbonate filament with carbon fibres for rigidity and UV resistance.

PC is an amorphous thermoplastic polymer with a transparent finish. It is characterised by its durability (high impact strength) and heat resistance, and is easy to process by moulding or thermoforming. In addition, it has good resistance to flame, oils, greases and solvents.

It is widely used to manufacture electronic and electrical related products, food packaging, toys, office equipment, glass frames or engineering products.

The added carbon fibre (CF) ensures rigidity and dimensional stability, which considerably reduces the risk of warping. In addition, 3D printed parts with CF filaments are a great substitute for metal parts due to their considerable light weight.

Nanovia PC CF filament is a carbon fibre reinforced polycarbonate filament that enables rigid components with high dimensional stability and low deformation during printing. Unlike standard polycarbonate, Nanovia PC CF is UV-resistant and can be used with direct exposure to the sun or a heat source of up to 120 °C.

The advantages of PC CF filament include:

  • Stiffness
  • High temperature resistance (120 °C)
  • UV resistant

It is a good choice for engineering projects where heat resistance, stiffness and dimensional stability are required.

Carbon fibre reinforced filaments are more abrasive than filaments without additives. They wear the nozzle, which leads to deterioration of the print quality. It is therefore crucial to use wear-resistant nozzles (at least 0.4 mm in diameter) to avoid rapid nozzle wear.

PC CF materials are hygroscopic materials. They should be stored in vacuum-sealed packaging or in a drying case, such as the Fiber Three drying case, available in the F3 Safe Light or F3 Safe Long Run version. For even better results, the Slice Engineering filament desiccant capsule is recommended.

To ensure good printing conditions, dry PC CF filament at 100°C for 4 hours or more when the spools have been exposed to humidity for a prolonged period.
