Sunlu FilaDryer S2 filament dryer

3D printing filaments are prone to absorbing moisture from the environment, which results in various extrusion problems such as clogging, poor adhesion of the part to the printing surface, and numerous quality issues. Filament dryers are devices that remove excess humidity from filament by means of heat or heat and desiccant.

The FilaDryer S2 by Sunlu has been designed to dry a wide range of materials, from PLA (also wood/marble/silk), ABS, PC, PETG or TPU to extremely hygroscopic materials such as BVOH and Nylon. FilaDryer S2 can fit spools of max. Ø210 x 85 mm, and it can work with 1.75 mm, 2.85 mm and 3.00 mm diameter filaments.

There is no need to guess the drying parameters since FilaDryer S2 has drying parameters installed for the most common materials. The settings can be altered by the user and they will be remembered once the device has been switched off. Another advantage of the FilaDryer S2 is that the dried filament can be fed directly into a 3D printer through a hole placed at the top of the device. This implies enormous time savings in the 3D printing workflow and a high quality of 3D prints.

The FilaDryer S2 is a high quality filament drying device with CE, FC and RoHS certifications. Furthermore, Sunlu won silver at the 2022 Muse Design Awards for the unique and innovative round design of the FilaDryer S2 device.

Thermal efficiency

The temperature within the FilaDryer S2 chamber is precisely controlled thanks to the double heating element structure. This way, the device heats up faster to the maximum 70 ºC drying temperature and dries the filament evenly from top and bottom. This leads to 30 % more heat efficiency compared to non-circular filament dryers, and ensures that the maximum temperature difference at different points within the chamber is 1º C.

The unique round design required the addition of feet at the bottom of the device to ensure its stability. This design element has an added advantage since it avoids heat conduction to other objects by creating a 10 mm gap between the device and the surface it is placed on.

Practical user interface

The FilaDryer S2 has a large and convenient 4.6-inch LCD touchscreen placed on the front of the device. The touchscreen has a 1 second response and displays temperature, time, humidity, material type and countdown time. The drying temperature can be adjusted between 35-70 °C and the timer can be set between 1-99 hours.
