PETG filament developed for applications requiring protection against electrostatic discharge.

PETG ESD filament is one of the materials offered by 3DXtech, a renowned North American manufacturer specialising in technical filaments for professional applications.

PETG ESD filament is a filament specifically developed for applications requiring electrostatic discharge protection and good chemical resistance. Manufactured from high-flux PETG and CNT for exceptional repeatability and reliability.

Manufactured with state-of-the-art multi-wall carbon nanotube technology, its surface resistance is 10^7 to 10^9 Ohm.

Due to its high PETG content, this filament retains many of the properties of PETG:

  • Ease of printing.
  • Wide printing temperature range: 230-260 ºC.
  • Does not require the use of a hot bed.
  • Low shrinkage, almost no warping effect.
  • Chemical resistance superior to ABS.
  • Low moisture absorption.
  • Low odour - ideal for printing in office environments.

In addition, PETG ESD has other very interesting properties that make it stand out from other ESD materials:

  • Consistent and reliable surface strength.
  • Better impact retention and elongation than similar ESD-safe materials.
  • Low particulate contamination.
  • Minimal contribution to outgassing and ionic contamination.

PETG ESD has good resistance to dilute aqueous solutions of mineral acids, bases, salts and soaps, and to aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols and a variety of oils. Halogenated hydrocarbons, short chain ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons dissolve or swell the plastic.

PLA ESD filament is ideal for the manufacture of hard disk drive components, housings or connectors, as well as for industrial applications such as device manufacturing, transportation, measurement, end-of-arm tooling and sensing applications.

Resistance according to printing temperature

In order to achieve the highest possible electrostatic conductivity, it is recommended to use the highest possible extrusion temperature recommended by the manufacturer (260 °C).

Elongation at break (%) 13
Tensile strength (MPa) 50
Tensile modulus (MPa) 1800
Flexural strength (MPa) 74
Flexural modulus (MPa) 1780
Softening temperature (ºC) 80

PETG ESD filament has the printability of PETG. The recommended printing temperature is between 230 and 260°C. PETG ESD is a filled product and has a higher melt viscosity compared to unfilled PETG. Therefore, it is sometimes necessary to print at higher temperatures than standard PETG to allow the material to flow properly.

As with standard PETG, this material does not require the use of a heated bed, although if available, it is recommended to use it at a temperature between 60 and 90°C. The use of the coating fan is recommended for an optimum finish.

Although not prone to warping, Magigoo or Dimafix can be used to improve adhesion to the base.

With PETG ESD it is not necessary to use reinforced nozzles as this filament has low abrasion, but nozzles with output diameters of 0.5 mm or more are recommended to avoid clogging.

If you have an FDM 3D printer with a double extruder and you need to 3D print complex parts, it is possible to use this material in combination with X1 support, a hot water soluble material.
