Nixie watch kit

The Nixie Clock Kit is an assembly kit using pre-punched plates and Nixie tubes to create a functional vintage-style table clock. Through the assembly of the product, an approach to the world of electronics is carried out by means of a practical learning process.

With this kit, Noyce Joyce presents a new generation of assemblable electronic products, replacing the usual die-cut sheet metal models.

In this case, Noyce Joyce has developed an assemblable digital clock made from die-cut metal and printed circuit boards, using Nixie tubes to bring the legendary Nixie clocks back to life.

Nixie clocks used Nixie tubes for the display of numbers. The Nixie tube consists of an anode, which is a grid, in front of a series of cathodes. The cathodes are in the shape of the symbol to be represented, in this case numbers from 0 to 9, and are stacked behind the anode, but not in contact with each other. The whole assembly is inside a kind of glass ampoule that can have different shapes and is filled with gas at low pressure (usually neon). When the Nixie tube is active, the selected symbol is illuminated with orange light, highlighting that cathode against the rest that are switched off.

Nixie watches ceased production 40 years ago due to the high production costs of Nixie tubes. However, thanks to the nostalgic appeal and taste for vintage aesthetics, a number of electronics enthusiasts have recently shown interest in resurrecting Nixie watches.

Noyce Joyce has opted to acquire old stocks of Nixie tubes for the development of this product, offering a limited and unique edition of assemblable Nixie Clock Kits.

Assembly of the Nixie Clock Kit is simple by following the included instructions, and can take between 1 and 2 hours. After assembly of the Nixie clock, there are two mounting options for use. It can be used as a table clock, or the clock can be hung on the wall.
