Monkey RePA12 is a powder for 3D printing SLS made with Polyamide 12 by the company Powder Monkeys, a manufacturer that arises in response to the limited range of materials for SLS printing. The polyamides or nylons are a group of thermoplastic materials widely used in industry. PA-12 is one of the most widely used polyamides for 3D printing due to its low melting point and extremely low hygroscopicity. Its main advantages are good mechanical, chemical and wear resistance and its elasticity. That is why it is widely used in the manufacture of mechanical components, medical-surgical products or aerospace components.

When using this material, the equipment must have an open configuration that allows the use of third-party materials. This option may not be available on all printers, but it can be achieved with an update. For Sinterit devices, the user will employ Advanced Studio.

The technical properties of PA12 may vary depending on the thickness of the model. With a thickness of 0.8 mm, the model will be flexible, while with more than 2 mm of thickness, it will become rigid.

Regarding its behavior in water, nylon 12 is water-resistant but not waterproof. Therefore, 3D objects should not be in contact with water for extended periods. Concerning temperature, immersing the object in water with a temperature above 120 °C (248 °F), is likely to cause significant shape changes.

Without polishing, the material is gray, granular, and a bit porous, but these characteristics can be reduced with some soapy water and a cloth, allowing it to dry completely. If a more refined finish is desired, the piece should undergo a polishing process. It can also be dyed. Objects are fully colored, making them extremely resistant to scratches and abrasion.

As a powder-based technology, SLS can create closed and interlocking parts, eliminating the need to assemble individually printed components. For this to be successful, the clearance between parts should be at least 1 mm. For large objects, the free space should be increased.

Hollowing out the piece can be useful, as it reduces printing time and saves material. However, when doing so, it should be remembered that holes must have a diameter of at least 1.5 mm to help remove adhered dust from inside the piece after the printing process.
