The PETG-CF from Bambu Lab is a composite material that combines the durability of PETG with the rigidity and texture provided by carbon fiber. It is formulated to reduce common issues such as stringing or material sticking to the nozzle (clumping), achieving clean, durable prints with a premium finish. Ideal for functional parts that bear loads, outdoor components, or robust prototyping.

Examples of models printed in PETG-CF

This filament comes in a 1.75 mm diameter with ±0.03 mm tolerance and 1 kg reusable spools. It is not compatible with 0.2 mm nozzles or stainless steel nozzles, as carbon fiber increases wear. A hardened steel nozzle of 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, or 0.8 mm is recommended. For optimal results, the filament should be dried before use (e.g., 65 °C for 8 h, or alternatively in a printer-specific heated bed if permitted) and kept in an environment with relative humidity below 20 %.

Suggested parameters include extrusion temperatures between 240-270 °C, heated bed 65-75 °C, layer fan adjusted (0-40 % depending on the model), and moderate print speed (< 200 mm/s). Use of Engineering, High-Temperature, or textured PEI plates as a print base is recommended, applying adhesive if initial adhesion is insufficient. With these settings, PETG-CF produces parts with good flexibility, impact resistance, and thermal stability, suitable for outdoor use due to resistance to moisture, grease, oils, and UV.

The properties of PETG-CF allow durable objects like this carabiner

Recommended applications include outdoor housings, mechanical supports, parts exposed to impact or vibration, functional replacements, and models that need to withstand external agents such as water, grease, or oils. However, PETG-CF is slightly more abrasive than standard PETG, so careful nozzle maintenance, avoiding excessive retraction or strong fan settings, can prevent clogs and extend equipment life.

If you are looking for a filament that provides a good aesthetic finish, greater rigidity than common PETG, outdoor resistance, and reliable mechanical performance, PETG-CF from Bambu Lab is an excellent choice for demanding projects, both in professional environments and for advanced home users.
