PETG pellets for manufacturing 3D printing filaments with an extruder.

PETG is a thermoplastic copolyester with high hardness and flexibility, in addition to its chemical resistance.

As a material used in 3D printing, it is characterised by a functionality very similar to ABS (good temperature resistance, durable and tough) and the ease of printing of PLA. In addition, it shows good adhesion between layers, little deformation during printing, resistance to low temperature environments for long periods of time, chemical resistance (bases and acids) and no odour during printing. For all these reasons, this material is an alternative to ABS or Nylon for functional prototypes.

PETG pellets are small cylinders of the highest quality material and do not incorporate recycled or recovered material.

Thanks to these qualities, PETG pellets are perfect for 3D printing, achieving high print quality. There are several methods for using pellets in 3D printing:

  • PETG pellets can be used in the manufacture of filament for FDM 3D printers using Filastruder or any other filament extruder.
  • It is possible to use a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing.

To obtain different colours, the PETG material pellets must be combined with the desired dyes. In this way, custom colours can be achieved. This can be very useful, as in some cases it can be difficult to find the exact colour required for each application. This is a great advantage, especially when producing small batches of parts in a particular colour.

With the combination of PETG Pellets and a good filament extruder such as Filastruder, it is possible to obtain 3D printing filament with qualities similar to those of commercial PETG filament.

When using PETG Pellets to make filament with a filament extruder such as Filastruder or using a pellet extruder for direct 3D printing, it should be noted that the extrusion temperature must be regulated in relation to the extrusion speed used. For optimal results, it is recommended to read the product's usage tips.

The suitable temperature for extruding PETG pellets in the Filastruder is between 220 and 230ºC. For higher extrusion speeds, the temperature can be increased to 240°C, but in this case there is a risk of small air bubbles appearing in the filament.

This material is quite hygroscopic. This means that it has a tendency to absorb ambient humidity. Moisture is the great enemy of 3D printing materials, as it can negatively affect the print quality and thus the quality of the parts printed with this material. Therefore, it is recommended to store the pellets, as well as the filament made with them, in an airtight bag or with desiccant bags to preserve the quality of the material.
