3DXtech, the renowned North American manufacturer specialising in technical materials for FDM 3D printing, has developed PVA pellets for soluble support.
PVA is a water-soluble material ideal for use as a support material in FDM 3D printing. It is an excellent support material for parts that need support structures for which a 3D printer with a dual extruder or head is required (it is very useful for parts that need cantilevers or bridges).
PVA pellets are small cylinders of the highest quality material. They do not incorporate recycled or reclaimed material. Because of these qualities, PVA pellets are perfect for 3D printing, achieving high print quality.
PVA pellets can be used in the manufacture of filament for FDM 3D printers using Filastruder or any other filament extruder.
With the combination of PVA Pellets and a good filament extruder such as Filastruder, it is possible to obtain 3D printing filament with qualities similar to those of commercial PVA filament.
PVA filament is an ideal choice for use with dual extruder 3D printers, as it can be combined with different polymers such as PLA, PVB, Nylon or TPU and allows the manufacture of parts with overhangs or complex shapes.
When using PVA pellets to manufacture filament with a filament extruder such as Filastruder, it must be taken into account that the extrusion temperature must be regulated in relation to the extrusion speed used. For optimal results, it is recommended to read the product's usage advice.

After manufacturing filament with PVA pellets, it can be used as support material in twin-extruder or twin-head FDM 3D printers.
Once the part has been printed with support material, the PVA support material must be removed. To do this, the following steps are recommended:
The residues are ecologically safe and can be disposed of down the house or office drain.
PVA pellets are highly hygroscopic. This means that the material has a tendency to absorb ambient moisture. For this reason, it is recommended to store PVA pellets in an airtight bag or use desiccant bags to prevent them from absorbing moisture. If the material acquires moisture, the filament made from the pellets will not be of optimum quality, and this can have an impact on the print quality.
