The 3D filament PEN HF (PolyEthylene Naphthalate High Flow) stands out as one of the most advanced solutions in professional FDM 3D printing, specifically designed for demanding applications in industrial, food, and chemical environments. This high-performance technical material, developed for FLXR Engineering, combines certified food safety, extreme thermal resistance, and excellent mechanical performance, making it a strategic choice for additive manufacturing of functional parts.

Additionally, PEN HF meets the strictest safety and health standards, being a PFAS- and BPA-free 3D filament, ensuring safe use in critical applications. Its composition is designed to be food contact safe, fully suitable for direct contact with food, reinforcing its position as one of the best 3D filaments for food applications. It is also FDA-approved and considered food compliant, meeting the most demanding international standards for 3D printing materials.

Certified 3D Filament Safe for Food Contact

PEN HF stands out in the food-safe 3D filament market due to its compliance with the strictest regulations, including FDA 21 CFR, EU 10/2011, and Japanese food safety legislation. This certification guarantees the suitability of the material for manufacturing components intended for direct food contact, eliminating risks of chemical migration, odors, or taste alteration.

Its smooth, non-porous, and fully inert surface prevents contamination absorption, making it ideal for food processing, liquid handling, and sanitary applications.

High Thermal Resistance and Dimensional Stability in 3D Printing

This technical filament is optimized to withstand extreme conditions, with thermal resistance of up to 121 °C untreated and up to 166 °C after annealing, far surpassing conventional materials like PLA or PETG. Its thermal stability allows use in hot filling, industrial washing, and sterilization processes without deformation or loss of properties.

Moreover, PEN HF maintains its structural integrity even after repeated intensive cleaning cycles, making it ideal for high-performance reusable parts.

Fast, Precise 3D Printing with Minimal Warping

Thanks to its high-flow formulation, this filament allows printing speeds up to 300 mm/s, optimizing productivity in additive manufacturing processes. Its excellent performance significantly reduces warping, enabling the production of complex parts without post-processing or additional tools.

Compatible with desktop 3D printers and nozzles from 0.2 to 1.0 mm, PEN HF offers a smooth and efficient printing experience, ideal for professional environments seeking scalability and cost reduction.

Chemical Resistance, Wear, and Low Friction

PEN HF provides exceptional chemical resistance, withstanding contact with aggressive substances without degradation. Its low coefficient of friction (0.17 according to ASTM D1894) makes it perfect for moving components, wear-prone parts, and fluid handling systems.

Its high scratch and abrasion resistance ensures long-lasting performance even in demanding industrial applications, while its UV-blocking transparency adds an extra layer of protection against radiation.

Hygienic, Sterilizable, and Safe 3D Filament

One of the key differentiators of PEN HF is its compatibility with multiple sterilization methods, including alcohol-based disinfectants, hypochlorite, UV radiation, as well as thermal processes like autoclaving. This makes it a critical material for sectors where hygiene is essential.

Independent studies show that, when printed with optimized parameters, parts made from PEN HF show no residual bacterial contamination after standard cleaning, consolidating its use in medical, food, and laboratory environments.

Controlled Manufacturing Environment and Premium Quality

The filament is produced in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom, ensuring superior purity and contaminant control. It is also packaged in vacuum-sealed aluminum bags with desiccant, guaranteeing optimal preservation until use.

PEN White Filament – New Option Available

Recently, PEN White (biocompatible / medical grade) has been released for commercial availability. This material is based on the same composition as PEN Natural, with validation performed on 3D-printed specimens. This new variant was developed in response to demand from pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and semiconductor equipment industries. Customers required a white material with no carbon fiber, a smooth, wear-resistant surface, and chemical resistance and thermal stability necessary for fixtures, gears, and mechanical components.

Professional 3D Printing Applications for PEN HF

PEN HF is a leading solution for producing functional components in direct food contact, chemical processing parts, industrial tooling, functional prototypes, and on-demand production. Its combination of properties makes it essential for companies seeking innovation, safety, and performance in 3D printing.

In a highly competitive market, PEN HF sets new standards in additive manufacturing, offering a true alternative to advanced polymers like PPSU, while providing the ease of printing of PETG and superior performance in critical conditions.

To achieve professional results with PEN HF filament from FLXR Engineering, it is essential to work with optimized parameters that leverage its high flow, chemical resistance, and thermal stability. This material is designed for high-performance FDM 3D printing, enabling high speeds and functional parts with excellent surface quality.

Nozzle diameters between 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm are recommended, allowing adaptation for both high-precision parts and rapid production. To ensure stable and consistent extrusion, the nozzle temperature should be maintained between 265 °C and 275 °C, aligned with its optimized flow behavior for high-speed printing.

For the print bed, the temperature must be adjusted depending on the surface type. On PEI beds, the optimal range is between 75 °C and 90 °C, while on glass surfaces it is recommended to work between 80 °C and 100 °C, improving adhesion and reducing warping during printing.

The use of an enclosed chamber is highly recommended for technical materials such as PEN HF. Maintaining an internal temperature of around 40 °C significantly improves dimensional stability, minimizes internal stresses, and helps achieve more precise and consistent parts.

To ensure maximum material performance, proper pre-drying is essential. It is recommended to dry the filament at 65 °C – 75 °C for 4 hours, removing moisture that could negatively impact print quality, causing defects such as bubbles or poor layer adhesion.

By applying these settings, PEN HF from FLXR Engineering enables fast, stable, production-oriented 3D printing, with excellent adhesion, minimal warping, and consistent results in industrial, chemical, and food-contact applications.
