The Bambu Lab R1 redefines the standards of desktop digital manufacturing. Equipped with a powerful 55 W CO₂ laser and an expandable work area, this machine combines industrial cutting capacity with the ease of use characteristic of intelligent 3D printing ecosystems. Designed for creators, workshops, and design studios, the R1 allows scaling projects from small decorative objects to complete furniture, always ensuring professional-level finishes.

Superior cutting power in a single pass

The core of the machine is its advanced 55 W CO₂ laser tube, capable of working with a wide range of materials, from hardwoods to glass, ceramics, leather, or fabric. Its ability to make deep cuts without the need for multiple passes that slow down production stands out: it can cleanly cut black walnut plywood up to 18 mm thick and acrylic (including transparent) up to 20 mm thick in a single pass. This not only saves valuable time but also avoids burnt edges, preserving the natural character of each material.

Limitless scalability: From desktop to industrial size

Independently, the R1 offers a generous work area of 600 × 300 mm. However, its true potential is unlocked when integrated with its ecosystem of modular accessories:

  • Tape Feeder (Conveyor): Allows continuous feeding of long boards, expanding the work area to an astonishing 3 meters (3000 mm) in length. Ideal for creating tables, shelves, and full-scale panels.
  • Riser Base: Increases vertical clearance within the chamber, allowing for the introduction of bulky objects or tall boxes.
  • Rotary Module: Attached to the riser base, it enables continuous engraving in 360 degrees on cylindrical or curved surfaces, such as bottles, cups, and glasses.

The end of manual calibrations

The alignment of the optical path has always been the biggest headache in traditional CO₂ laser machines, requiring thermal paper, screw adjustments, and multiple test shots. The Bambu Lab R1 solves this by introducing a revolutionary automatic laser alignment system. An integrated alignment sensor measures the beam, detects any misalignment in the mirrors, and corrects the optical path completely autonomously in approximately one minute.

TriSense System: What you mark is what you cut

To ensure that the design is exactly where you want it, the machine uses TriSense technology, an ecosystem of measurement and positioning that unifies dual cameras, height measurement lasers, and XY encoders (Vision Encoder). This system maps the material, detects unevenness or irregular surfaces, and compensates the path in real time. Whether you engrave a flat object, cut a printed sticker, or work on a spherical glass, the machine dynamically adjusts the focus, ensuring positioning accuracy with a margin of less than 0.2 mm and an absolute movement accuracy of just 0.1 mm.

Speed of up to 1000 mm/s without ghosting effect

Inheriting the best technology from high-speed 3D printing, the Bambu Lab R1 can engrave at speeds of up to 1000 mm/s with a dizzying acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². Often, high speeds in engravers cause tremors at the edges of the design after a sharp change in direction; to avoid this, the equipment features active vibration compensation, which neutralizes residual chassis movements to offer sharp and defined lines. Additionally, its dynamic power control maintains a constant engraving depth regardless of the head's travel speed.

Smart and Independent Workflow

The equipment is designed to work without friction. Through its built-in color touchscreen on the front panel, you can manage jobs, observe optical calibration in real time, and monitor component wear (such as the tube and mirrors) without depending on an external computer. And if you decide to use official materials, the system is capable of automatically recognizing them, immediately applying the perfect parameters of power, speed, and air assistance, allowing you to skip the tedious pre-configuration tests.

Cross-Flow Ventilation and Class 1 Safety

Safety and the quality of the work environment are a priority. Unlike standard single-fan machines, the R1 uses a cross-flow ventilation system: it injects fresh air from one side and uniformly extracts gases from the opposite side, quickly removing smoke from the chamber before it can stain the material.

Designed for office, home, and school environments, the R1 complies with Class 1 safety regulations (IEC 60825-1) when operated closed. The beam is completely encapsulated, so special protective glasses are not necessary. The device features a robust multi-layer protection scheme that includes automatic stop when detecting the lid opening, intelligent flame detection, and an emergency stop button on the front for total control in any eventuality.

To get the maximum performance from your Bambu Lab R1, extend the service life of its 55 W CO₂ laser tube and ensure flawless finishes on every project, we recommend incorporating these advanced operation and maintenance practices into your daily workflow.

Optimizing Air Assist and Ventilation

  • Adjust according to the task: Air assist is essential for achieving high-quality results. When cutting thick materials (such as 18 mm wood or acrylic), set the airflow to maximum; this will expel cutting debris, prevent charred edges and reduce the risk of flames. Conversely, when performing surface engraving, reduce the airflow to prevent smoke and soot from being pushed against the material surface, which could stain the design.
  • Make the most of cross-flow ventilation: Make sure the machine's side air intakes are not blocked by walls or nearby objects. For the cross-flow ventilation system to operate correctly, the machine needs to draw in fresh air without restriction in order to sweep smoke towards the rear extractor.

Optical System Maintenance

  • Proactive cleaning of lenses and mirrors: Although the R1 features fully automatic optical calibration, the accumulation of wood resins, acrylic dust or fumes will reduce the laser's actual power. Clean the focusing lens and reflective mirrors regularly (every 10–15 hours of intensive use) using specialised swabs or lint-free cloths slightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Monitoring service life: Regularly check the machine's touchscreen. The smart system will indicate the degradation status of the CO₂ tube and optics. Plan to replace these consumables before they reach 0% to avoid incomplete cuts or drastic quality losses in the middle of important production runs.

Making the Most of the TriSense System and Cameras

  • Surface preparation: The TriSense system uses cameras and vision encoders to compensate for irregularities. To help the system achieve millimetre-level mapping, make sure the material is as flat as possible on the workbed. If you are using heavily warped or bowed wood, clamps or holding magnets (when using a honeycomb bed) will help stabilise the workpiece before the machine starts the height scan.
  • Camera cleaning: The high-definition cameras used to position your design from the software are also exposed to smoke. If you notice that the preview on your screen is becoming less sharp or that automatic positioning is off by a few millimetres, gently clean the protective glass of the cameras located on the upper part of the chassis.

Efficient Use of Accessories and Materials

  • Managing long projects with the Conveyor: When using the conveyor feeder for pieces up to 3 metres long, make sure the incoming material has external physical support (such as an auxiliary table at the same height) to prevent the weight of the sheet from lifting the material inside the chamber and causing the laser to lose focus.
  • Safe use of the rotary module: When attaching the Riser and rotary accessory, the centre of gravity of the workpieces changes. Apply masking tape to the edges of very smooth cylindrical objects (such as glass or stainless-steel cups) to increase roller friction, preventing the workpiece from slipping and ruining the engraving during rapid rotations.
  • Material profiles: Make the most of Bambu Lab's official consumable recognition technology for quick jobs. However, when using third-party materials, we recommend dedicating one sheet exclusively to creating "test matrices" (speed/power tests) and saving these profiles in the software. This will save you hours of trial and error on future projects.

Cabinet Safety and Cleaning

  • Waste removal: Frequently empty and clean the lower waste collection tray. Small pieces of acrylic, paper or wood that fall to the bottom can become a fire hazard if the laser accidentally passes over them during a prolonged cutting operation.
